Married Women's Property Act 1884
Removed many of the features of coverture. Specifically allowed a married woman to own her own property separate from her husband, to have her own legal identity, to be responsible for her own debts, to testify against her husband in court and to sue and be sued. -

Human Rights Act
s 21 bans discrimination. Specifically in relation to gender, sexual orientation, family status and marital status. -
Domestic Violence Act
tighter regulations surrounding the prosecution of abusive domestic partners. -
Kyoto Protocol
Kyoto Japan. Set out mandatory requirements for raitified, developed countries to meet in relation to carbon emissions. Developing countries had to report on emissions but not act to decrease them. -
Sale of Liquor Amendment Act
amended the age of purchase for alcohol to 18 years -
Property (Relationships) Amendment Act
Allowed for a lump sum payment to the spouse who would be notably worse off after divorce, assuming this inequality was due to the 'division of functions' within the relationship. -
Parental Leave and Employment Protection (Paid Parental Leave) Amendment Act
allowed for a mother to take 12 weeks (subsequently extended to 14 weeks) of paid parental leave after birth. This could be transferred to her husband. -

Decriminalised prostitution. Compliant with CEDAW article 6, which states nations will stop 'the exploitation of prostitution of women'. -
US lead invasion of Iraq
NZ refuses to be a part of the 'coalition of the willing'. International law is largely split over the legality of the invasion, most believe it was not legal, as it had to be justified under a 2002 resolution relating to arms inspection, as there were dubious reports claiming Iraw had WoMDs. -
Sale of Liquor (Youth Alcohol Harm Reduction) Amendment Bill
aimed to amend the drinking age back up to 20 years and also create tighter restrictions around advertising alcohol. -
