Lauren Lockard's Life Lessons

  • First Communion

    First Communion
This was the second step in furthering my Catholic Faith. Being able to receive the Eucharist put into perspective what Jesus endured in order to save us. I am now grateful for my religion and everything God has blessed me. I thank my parents for guiding me in the right direction. Even if you are not Catholic, it is always good to have the God by your side with every step you take.
  • Friends till The End

    Friends till The End
After being best friends with Emma Heald, the most genuine human being I know, since Pre-K, I definitely learned that friendships have their ups and downs. Even if the downs are as simple as calling her a "stupid" in third grade! However, the ups reign over the downs in all friendships and the downs bring out the best in both people. Emma is a sister to me and sisterhood is the best feeling to have. Our memories that we've created together will last a lifetime.
  • The Spirit of Christmas

    The Spirit of Christmas
Believing in Santa is a wonderful childhood memory for everyone. The lesson learned from countless Christmas mornings is to BELIEVE! One must believe in order to keep life interesting... In order to keep yourself fun spirited no matter the age. If believing means to one person that one day they will win the lottery or like myself, believing in Santa, teaches that the word "believe" is very important.

The Lockard Family's Last Puzzle Piece
On this day, my lovely little sister Lily, was born. After being an only child for 9 peaceful years, I learned that a newborn can be a nuisance yet a blessing in disguise. Not only can a new little sister set an example for this, but any daunting task or unwanted curveball in life can be a life blessing. It is good to experience change and learn to live with what you now have.
  • Casting my Line

    Casting my Line
During hot summer days, I found out that one of my favorite hobbies is fishing with my dad. Not only did I get to spend quality time with my dad but it helped me grasp the concept of patience. It is best to live with patience so stress levels are low and you can enjoy the simple things around you. http://www.wideopenspaces.com/8-ways-fishing-relieves-stress/
  • I Can Do Anything Better than You

I Can Do Anything Better than You
4th grade flag football not only proved that I was "wicked" good but I proved to myself that I can hang with the boys. It was odd to see a little blonde haired girl out on the field with pink cleats but that sure didn't stop me. I always had a thing for beating the boys. Thankfully, being put on a team of all boys taught me a lesson... Do not let your gender deter you from doing things you loved. Girls are just as capable of doing 'boy' things. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=XjJQBjWYDTs
  • First day of School Jitters

    First day of School Jitters
This was often my face for my first day of school picture my mom insists on getting each year. I made this goofy face because as I grew up, I realized that it is indeed okay to show the silly side of you. In fact, I learned that being yourself is only really what matters. My mom once said, "Don't be fake" and it has never left my mind. To this day, I consider myself to be a funny person. :)
  • Kissing and Discovering at Discovery Cove

Kissing and Discovering at Discovery Cove
Learn to love and respect the nature around you, especially creatures that provide so much research, interest and affection to human beings like myself. If you don't respect nature, how can you expect it to respect you. I like to consider the dolphin as my spirit animal.
  • There is No "I" in Team

There is No "I" in Team
I was blessed to be able to join varsity sports as a freshman. My soccer team is like no other team out there. Over the years, the seniors left and freshman came but we still all managed to bond so closely each time. So many valuable lessons can be learned by being apart of a team such as everyone will have each other's back no matter what. Trust and respect are taught http://www.briarcliffe.edu/student-life/briarcliffe-blog/december%202013/5-real-world-skills-that-sports-teach-us
  • Victory Never Tasted So Good

    Victory Never Tasted So Good
It is one thing to be a part of team that wins districts but to lead and captain your team to the championship is a whole different feeling. This past year, I was able to lead my team with 5 goals and 3 assists in the District Championship against FM and then again in the Regional Semi Championship against Canterbury with 8 goals and 4 assists. I never once gave up on trying to be a champion and it paid off through hard work and determination.
  • If You Love what you do, It is not Work

If You Love what you do, It is not Work
I never really understood that until I picked a lacrosse stick and immediately knew I wanted to play lacrosse forever. I basically eat, sleep and play lacrosse. Even though I am out there "working" on my game, I don't consider it to be a waste of time or a hassle. So if you love something you do, it would not be dreadful work.
  • Adventure

    Adventure
What is life with out adventure? I'm not sure because I don't think I have ever not been adventurous. Summers are my time to be myself and go out exploring. Whether it be jumping off this 35 ft cliff into a freezing lake or as a little kid wandering off to go find the frog that chirps in the pond, I have always been curious. In life, you will want to adventure with different people or maybe take a different path in order to be successful. You have to take risks along with being adventurous.
  • Live! Laugh! Love!

    Live! Laugh! Love!
Love is a simple yet complex feeling. So many lessons can come from experiences dealing with love. These two people in this picture are the loves of my life. I can not have a bad day if I'm with either one of them. Lily never fails to make me giggle and wonder what goes through her intellectual 8 yr old mind and Connor never fails to put a bright smile on my face. Love is a cure and key to happiness.
  • My BV Family

    My BV Family
As a senior in high school, I realized how incredibly lucky I was to be able to spend my years at Bishop Verot. Here at Verot, we are not just classmates but we are brothers and sisters. The life as a Verot student has taught me many valuable lessons such as when you walk by Mrs. OGrady, you better have your shirt tucked in and when you walked by Mr. Cavell, you better have had a smile on your face and greet him with a hello! Verot has taught me to reach for the stars because they believe in me.
  • Family Selfies are the Best Selfies

Family Selfies are the Best Selfies
Obviously, on this date I did not just realize the importance of my family but it was when a quality selfie was taken with all of us in it! Family is the most important thing to me. Each family member has taught me a life lesson whether is be my dad who tells me not sweat the small stuff or my mom who has taught me to be true to myself. As I am getting older, spending time with them begins to get hard but I always try to make it work. My close family has taught me to love and respect all things
  • 17 years of Existence

    17 years of Existence
Senior pictures have been taken so I guess that means I am really a senior who leaves for college in less than a year. Crazy to think that time flew by so fast. I always looked up to the upperclassmen here at Verot but now I'm the upperclassman and I don't like it. Being an underclassman taught me to respect my elders and to have trust in the people above me because they have more wisdom. But now it is my turn to feed the freshmen the wisdom and earn the respect I once gave to the seniors
