  • Louisiana Purchase

    The Louisiana territory was purchased from France in 1803 for a very small amount of money for the amount of land that America was gaining. The Purchase doubled the size of America at the time, which massively strengthened the countryś materials, made the land available that gold was found on, which made Americans move west in westward expansion, while confirming the implied powers of the federal constitution.
  • Florida

    The purchase of Florida was called the Adams-Onis Treaty. The president at the time was the son of John Adams, and this is the main thing that he did in his presidency. It impacted American history because it defined the limits of the Louisiana Purchase, and it ended the Spanish rule in the eastern part of the United States.
  • Texas

    The Americans and Mexicans were fighting over and in Texas for some time. Eventually the Americans won and got Texas, as well as some other smaller territories from winning the war. It impacted the development of American history because it contributed to the coming of the Spanish-American war, where the United States would take even more land from the mexicans. It also showed that the American government was not perfect.
  • Oregon

    There were major disagreements between America and Europe over whose land this was. The treaty that ended this eventually allowed the Americans to gain the land. The europeans do not get anything because both sides were tired of fighting over it, so the british pretty much gave it to America, while establishing the parallel between america and canada. This impacted the development of American history because it became a spot where people wanted to be.
  • Mexican Cession

    Under the treaty that was signed between Mexico and America, America gained the land that is now upper california and new mexico. This treaty ended the spanish-american war, which absolutely decimated the mexicans and their power. This impacted the development of American history because it extended the United States land, while also providing tons of natural resources that people would flock to gain.
  • Gadsden Purchase

    In the gadsden purchase, america gained a small amount of land from mexico. They paid ten million dollars to Mexico, which they desperately needed to help their country and their loss in the Spanish American war. It impacted American history because it resolved the conflicts that still remained after the Spanish American War while also gaining the land for America that they needed to build the transcontinental railroad, which connected the west and east
  • Alaska

    America purchased the Alaskan territory from Russia for a small sum of a little of seven million dollars at the time. Russia was no longer interested in this area of the world after their loss in the Crimean war. This impacted the development of American history because it marked the end of Russian expansion into America, which allowed Americans to gain land while also not having to worry about fighting a war with Russia over land
  • Hawaii

    The annexation of Hawaii into American territory came from the nationalism that came as a result of the Americans in the Spanish American war. It impacted American history because it showed that American power was increasing because they were expanding into the Pacific, helping to establish the idea in everyone's minds that America was becoming a world power.
