Kunta Kinte was an American-Gambian slave that was born in Juffureh, Gambia. He was born circa 1750 in the village of Mandinka and was raised and captured there.

At the age of 15, Kunta starts Manhood Training. The purpose of Manhood Training was to assist the Mandinkas with necessary skills to train the younger generation to become men. Lessons included wrestling, capturing birds unharmed and circumcision.

Kunta Kinte got kidnapped as a slave. Kunta was captured using chains that were tied around his neck, wrists and ankles.

The ship Lord Ligonier shipped 170 slaves from Gambia to the United States. The slaves were unloaded in Annapolis, Maryland.
