  • Major Nazi Opperation

    The Krakow ghetto is eliminated by the SS and police. A total of 2,000 more Jews, members and families of the Jewish council, and the Krakow ghetto police force are also transported to Plaszow by the SS during the operation. A further 3,000 Krakow Jews are transported by the SS and Police to Auschwitz-Birkenau, where the camp's administrators choose 499 men and 50 women for forced labour. The remainder, or around 2,450 persons, are gassed to death.

    The Plaszow camp is taken over by the SS Economic and Administration Main Office, which transforms it into the Krakow-Plaszow concentration camp. The SS closes the last of the General Government's Jewish forced labour camps in Krakow and Radom and gathers the Jewish forced workers in Krakow-Plaszow. The SS also moves Hungarian Jews to Krakow-Plaszow in the spring of 1944.
