Arrival In Ellis Island
My arrival in Ellis Island was very exciting. I decided to immigrate to America because I was tired of the few opportunities I had in Germany. I was looking for lots of land to farm on in the west but wanted to live in the east for a while as well. The most exciting part of arriving was seeing the Statue of Liberty. The only thing I didn't like, was that the poverty was high. There were many people homeless, and I wasn't one of them. I tried to spread happiness by delivering German chocolate. -

Discovered a German Community
I am so happy I found a Germantown! I wanted to find some of my fellow Germans so I could speak my language freely. I don’t know English and was a little lost in America where everyone speaks English. The community was so welcoming and was like home, but better. -
Moving West
So, I decided to move west now. I finally got my things together and bought a wagon and supplies to move west. I was ready to leave and looking forward to get some LAND! The journey was treacherous but I will keep trekking ahead. In Colorado, I met a Native American girl named Abedubun who told me about herself and we really connected. She was one of the many that were affected by the Dawes Act of 1887. I enjoyed seeing her and she told me where I should live, once I arrived in the west. -
Arrival in Tacoma
I was so excited to have finally arrived! The city of Tacoma was great. The reason I picked Tacoma, was because my friend Abedubun had recommended it to me. I was looking forward to settling down here and going on with my life. -
Land at last!
I fought hard for land in Tacoma, where I settled. I feel so fortunate to have gained 100 acres. I wanted to get land so I could farm and open a business. Farming is my passion and I don’t care how much work it is. I enjoy every bit of it. -
My Business was Established
I created a produce business for local citizens. I had been farming for almost 20 years, and I was ready to earn money off all this hard work. The business started out slow and word started to get around. I sold at the town markets.
