The Sugar Act

Passage of the Stamp Act
Britian passes the Stamp Act. The Stamp Act puts tax on legal documents, newspapers, and any other kind of paper. It was made to make the colonist pay back their "debt" to the British for helping them in the war. -
Boston Massacre
British troops land in Boston to enfrorce Townshend duties and clamp down local protestors. The troops presence leads to street fights. Someone threw something which hit a soldier and the soldiers opened fire, killing 5 people. -
Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was an American protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston. The target was The Tea Act, which allowed the British East India Company to sell tea from China to America without paying taxes. The Sons of Liberty thought this was against their right and stole tea from a British ship and poured it all in the ocean. -
The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a series of four laws passed by the British Parlimen to punish the Colony in Massachusttes Bay for the Boston Tea Party. The four laws were The Massachusets Government Act, The Boston Port Act, The Quartering Act, and the Administartion of Justice Act. -
War Breaks Out
The first shots of the Revolutionary War were fired in Lexington. The news spread quick and a group called the "Minute Men" was formed. These are the beginnings of the Continental Army. -
America Declares its Independence
The Decleration of Independence is approved by the Second Continential Congress. Following a decade of hate over taxes and war, represenatives make the break with Britian. King George isn't gonna let his people go without a fight, and loyalist sentiment remains strong in many areas. America's primary allegiance is to its states; nationalism will grow slowly. -
Washington Crosses the Delaware River
In bold move, Washington moves his soldiers into New Jersey on Christmas. They then suprise a group of German soldiers fighting for Britian at Trenton. They won one similar to this in Princeton on January 3rd later, and revives hope that they could win the war.
