William Golding was born on September 19, 1911, in Saint Columb Minor, Cornwall, England. His parents were Mildred and Alex Golding. Goldings' father was a schoolmaster and his mother fought for women's right to vote. -
College
Golding attended Brasenose College at Oxford University. He began studies of natural science but then devoted himself to English literature. Before he graduated college he wrote a book of poems aptly called "Poems" but critics overlooked the collection. -
Navy

Lord of the Flies
In 1954, Golding wrote lord of the flies when the world was recovering from World War ll known as the cold war. The book is now known as the best novel ever written but it had been rejected 21 times. 1983 he won the noble prize for literature for his parables of the human condition.
