The birth of King Charles I
King Charles I was born in Dunfermline, Scotland on November 19th, 1600. His father James IV, was crowned king England in 1603 and his mother, Anne of Denmark, was Queen consort of England and Ireland. As a young child Charles seemed to have a personality disturbance and stuttered as he talked. Before his first birthday in December of 1600, he was named Duke of Albany. The first weekly newspaper is published
The first weekly newspaper was published during the year of 1605. The newspaper called "Relation" was published in Antwerp. The newspaper "Relation" is known as the first newspaper ever published by the World association of Newspapers. The publisher of this newspaper was John Carolus, who was born in 1575 and died in 1634. Galileo discovers the moons of Jupiter
On the day of January 7th, 1610 Galileo pointed his telescope at Jupiter and discovered that the planet had 3 moons. Galileo watched 4 stars go back in forth next to Jupiter and names them the "Medicean Stars." However, we now know them as the Galilean moons of Jupiter. Galileo studied the stars for lots of time, and noticed that the stars followed Kepler's Law, which states the motion of moons around a planet. First African slaves are brought to British North America
During August of 1619, the first African slaves were brought to Virginia from Angola in West Central Africa. After being captured in war, the slaves were forced to walk nearly 200 miles to the slave trade port of Luanda. Approximately 350 slaves were packed onto one ship during the hot summer of 1619. The surviving Africans when brought to land were sold to work along the James River Valley. This event was significant because the slave trade created lots of conflict. -Transatlantic Slave Trade -
Pilgrims land at Plymouth rock
During the November of 1620, the Mayflower landed in Plymouth Harbor arrived with William Bradford and many pilgrims. These 100 pilgrims were consisted of immigrants, explorers, and separatists. The voyage took roughly two months and life on the Mayflower wasn't pleasant.The closest thing the pilgrims had to bathroom was a bucket. This event was significant because this landing and discovery of new land led to future colonization of the Massachusetts and North American area. -Miss Cellenia -
Charles I becomes king
On the day of March 27th, 1625, Charles I ascended to the throne becomes king. Charles I was officially crowned on February 2nd, 1626 at Westminster Abbey. Charles was only 24 years old when he ascended to the throne, so he was experienced enough to rule mostly on his own. Right after taking the throne, he already had issues with Parliament during a meeting in June. This event is significant because Charles I changes England in many ways like starting a civil war. Charles I declares war on France & Spain
On the day of January 1st, 1627 Charles I declares war on Spain and France. This war between the three questions was the 2nd war fought during Charles rule. After the war came to an end, relations between France, Spain, and England stopped. They did not help each other with trading or in wars from that point on. This event is significant because this stopped all trade and alliances between England and both Spain and France, which affected England. -Charles I -
Charles I agrees to the "Petition of Rights"
As a result of raising money without Parliament through a forced loan in 1625, Charles I was forced to sign the "Petition of Rights" in 1628. Charles I imprisoned people who did not pay the forced loan, and so Parliament found out and were furious. They made him sign the "Petition of Rights" which stated that the king couldn't pass any taxes or loans without consulting with Parliament first. Charles I personal rule
King Charles I dissolved Parliament and began his personal rule during the year of 1629. This conflict started when Parliament wanted more say and power in the king's decision, but Charles refused to them power. This personal rule lasted until 1640, when Charles I needed Parliaments help. One of the main reasons why Charles I dissolved Parliament was because of the petition of rights. Charles I said he would agree to the petition, but didn't actually follow the rules. -John Canning -
Boston, Massachusetts is founded
On the day of March 29th, 1630, a fleet of 11 ships carrying 700 English puritans led by John Winthrop landed in Massachusetts. The settlers landed in Charlestown, but when clean water ran short, they were forced to move to where is now Boston. The new settlement was a success since the shipbuilding industry thrived. In 1635, the first American public school opened in Boston. This event is significant because Boston shaped the shipping industry from all the boats constructed for trade. -Tim L -
The hated Scottish Prayer book
Throughout Charles rule, he wanted to force one religion upon Scotland. Charles I wanted to force the Anglican religion on Scotland. By doing so, in 1637, Charles had Scotish Bishops draw up a book of prayer for Scotland. The people of Scotland immediatly hated this book, and never put it into use. After this event, the Scots were not in favor of King Charles rule which led to conflict. This event is significant because it led to the Puritan revolution in 1645 -Charles Wohlers -
The need for Parliaments help
In the year of 1640 Charles was forced to bring back Parliament. Charles was experiencing problems with the Bishops war between England and Scotland. Charles needed to raise money to battle the Scots, so he called the Short parliament. The Scots were found intriguing with France, so Charles was angered, and raised an army to fight them. Short Parliament refused and Charles once again dissolved them. This is significant because it weakened the relationship between the two. - Britannica Editors -
The beginning of the English Civil War
In the year of 1642 in August, civil war broke out in England. After raising an army against Parliaments rules, so Parliament raised an army of there own. The first victory of the war was Parliament in 1645 led by Oliver Cromwell. The fighting continued for many years until Charles execution in 1649. Even after Charles execution, the war continued until the year of 1651. This event is significant because after Charles I lost, he was forced to be executed. - English Civil Wars -
Charles I storms in to the House of Commons
In the year of 1642, Charles I stormed into the House of Commons with one goal in mind. Charles I attempted to arrest 5 leaders of Parliament for treason. Charles I miserably failed, and this led to him fleeing the scene in minutes. This angered Parliament and led to the English Civil war. Thirty Years War comes to an end
The Thirty Years war was a war that in fact lasted 30 years from 1618 to 1648. This war included many different battles fought by various nations. The people involved in this war included France, Spain and Sweden. After 30 years of conflict, all the countries involved in the conflict signed the treaty called the "peace of Westphalia." This treaty ended all conflict between the various countries. This event is significant because it created lots of destruction. -history.com editors -
The death of King Charles I
After fighting a civil war for years, King Charles I finally surrendered in 1646 to a Scottish army. King Charles was later accused of treason by the Parliamentarians led by Oliver Cromwell. In 1648, Charles was forced to appear before a high court controlled by his enemies, Parliament. Charles was officially sentenced to death, and on January 30th, 1649 he was publicly beheaded in London. This event is significant because Charles changed many things like ruling without parliament. -
