The French and Indian War
The French and Indian War, also known as the Seven Year War, happened because the French and the English had a disputes over the land on the Missippi River and the Ohio River. -
The Proclomation of 1763
The Prolomation of 1763 was made to prevent colonists from moving to the land they won in the French and Indian War. This was to reduce the tensions between the Native Americans and the English. -
The Sugar Act of 1764
The Sugar Act put taxes upon the cloth, sugar, coffee, and wine that entered the coloines. This law also had goods such as tabacco, sugar, and timber to only exported to Britian. Navel Officers were also allowed to search ships before they left port. The purpose was to stop the smuggling of goods in the coloines. The colonists boycotted the act until it was repeled. -
The Stamp Act of 1765
The Stamp Act of 1765 put tax upon every legal document, newspaper, phamplet, and deck of cards that were imported in to the colonies. The colonists were able to find a way around this tax, although they still weren't happy about it. -
Declaratory Act of 1766
This act gave Parliament the right to pass laws in the colonies, this was to remind colonists that the King and the Parliament were the stronger goverments. -
Townshend Acts of 1767
This act placed tax upon tea, paper, glass, and paint colorings. This act only increased the amount of protests making the Parliament repeal the tax on tea. -
Tea Act of 1773
The Tea Act was to give the East India Company, which was currently going broke, the only company to sell tea to the colonies. This act provoked the Boston Tea Party. -
The Intolerable Acts of 1774
After the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Harbor was closed and there was no trade until colonists paid for tea. Massachusetts colonists couldn't have town meetings without them being approved by the govener, who was in charge of British troops. British officials that were accused of capital crimes would be tried in Britain. The Quatering Act was also passed meaning that colonists had to house and feed British soliders at their expense. -
The Decleration of Independence
The Decleration of Independence was a letter to the King saying that the 13 colonies would no longer be under British rule. This caused the Revulutionary War.
