    Born in Dunfermline, Scotland, Carnegie was one of the wealthiest Americans ever and at the end of his life donated $350 million to multiple organizations. He started as a telegrapher and started receiving his wealth as a bond salesman. He built the Carnegie Steel Company and founded many other facilities under his name.

    Born in Cedarville, Illinois, she was one of the most prominent reformers during the Progressive Era. She was the first women to win a Nobel Peace Prize and co founded the Hull House and ACLU. Helped America focus on issues concerning mothers and world peace.
  • Homestead Act

    US federal laws that that gave applicants ownership of land or homestead for almost no cost. 10% of America's total area was given away to people mostly across the Mississippi River. The Homestead Act of 1862 gave away land to any adult that hadn't taken arms up against the government, including women, certified immigrants, and even urged blacks to participate.

    Took place at a rally in Chicago where workers were going on strike to receive an eight hour day. Someone threw dynamite at the police killing seven officers and four civilians. Eight anarchists were convicted of conspiracy, seven were sentenced to death and one received 15 years in prison.
