    Industrialization
    A time period in America where machinery was being invented and used a lot more after 1780. This resulted in a major growth in population and many more people migrating to America.
  • Manifest Destiny

    Manifest Destiny
    The belief by most east coast Americans that they had to move west for God, glory and gold. This idea was kept up for a long time as many people traveled to California and a Oregon.
  • Indian removal

    Indian removal
    An act that went into affect around 1830 that Andrew Jackson allowed. It said that the president could grant unsettled land west of Mississippi in exchange for Indian land.
  • Nativism

    Nativism
    This is the idea of a country or a large group of people favoring the natives of the land instead of all the immigrants that have migrated to that region. For example this would be like if people had favored the native indians who were here in our land before we came.
  • Homestead Act

    Homestead Act
    The law that was signed into affect by Abraham Lincoln which said that any settler could own 160 acres of land as long as they kept it well maintained and farmed it for at least five years.

    This was a riot in Chicago which resulted in the death of 7 police officers and at least one civilian. Reason being was because an unidentified individual had thrown a bomb into the crowd which resulted in the police opening fire on everyone. This riot was meant to put affect onto the 8 hour work day.

    Was another act that was meant to separate Indians and force them into reservations. It said that the ones that accepted allotments and lived separately from tribes could gain citizenship.

    A social reformer and women's rights activist, her goal was to get rid of the idea that women were inferior and gain voting rights and much more for women. Not only did she campaign for women's rights, but also massively contributed to the abolition of slavery.

    A major congressman during this time period, he helped Woodrow Wilson secure his spot in the democratic presidential nomination. He was a Nebraska congressman during 1890, he led most of Nebraska's democrats to support the states populist party.

    These are a form of propaganda where it focuses on a parties organization which is run by one boss or small autocratic group. These are meant to even reach the small neighborhoods where if bias is swung it can make an impact on the votes.

    A political leader who formed the socialist party of America and ran for president 4 terms between 1900 and 1920, and achieving a large amount of people at 915,000 in 1920, yet still not achieving full presidency. A major labour activist who wrote many papers that involved socialism and tried to get it accepted by America.

    Rosevelt was a robust man, the type of president who went out into the badlands to hunt big game and do things that no "upper class" person should do. Plus he was the first president to ever entertain an african american in the white house when he invited Booker T. Washington to dine with him

    Somebody who was a "muckraker" was someone who was known to do something scandals or have allegations of corruption among political or business leaders
  • Upton Sinclair

    Upton Sinclair
    A very profound writer during industrialization and inspired many ideas on mistreating workers, especially in the meatpacking industry. He wrote a book on it in 1906 and was initially rejected, until one publisher picked up on it. When it was released it was translated into 17 languages just months after its release. Teddy Roosevelt read the book himself and invited Sinclair to a meatpacking factory to disprove him.

    An act put into affect by america in 1906 that restricted the amount of harmful or dangerous ingredients that manufactores put into processed foods or any or semi synthetic foods in general.

    Born into slavery in 1862 on a plantation in Mississippi, she spent most of her time journaling and writing while her father was on the board of trustees at the same time she attended. Today she is widely known for being one of two african american women to sign the NAACP into effect.

    This was the amendment that was put into affect during the roaring 20's that banned the consumption, possession or purchase of alcohol in the United States. This did not work well nor last long due to the amount of people who would run places that illegally sold alcohol such as speakeasy.

    The amendment that many women wanted and fought for, it allowed all women no matter what religion, race or status to vote in the United state, which was a major step for feminist rights in America.
