The Harlem Renaissance brought the opportunity for blacks to start dream careers such as writers, poets, scholars, musicians, etc. -

Willard was an social reformer and suffragist. She worked to get the 18th and 19th amendments passed. She was one of the leaders in Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU). -

The Scopes trial was a court case in which a High School Biology teacher first taught the theory of evolution. At the time, the theory of evolution goes against everything society knew. Mr John Scopes was sued with Clarence Darrow being his lawyer. William Jennings Bryan pled against Scopes. -

Charles Lindbergh was a pilot. He flew a monoplane on the first non stop flight from New York to Paris. In the air force, he flew 50 different combat missions. In 1954, he was chosen by President Eisenhower to assist in selecting overseas air bases. -

Tin Pan Alley is a music publishing center for songwriters who dominated popular music in the late 19th and 20th century. It was located in Manhattan, New York. Many great singing legends created songs there. -

The Great Depression was the lowest and longest economic down turn in history. The Depression had many causes, but one of the best known causes is the Stock Market crash. 25% of U.S citizens became unemployed and homeless. -
Stock Market Crash "Black Tuesday"
The stock market crashed due to low wages, low crop prices, and large bank debts that were not paid. Over 15 million people lost their jobs. 30% of the workforce is unemployed. -
Teapot Dome Scandal
The Teapot scandal was the bribery of oil companies. The U.S government was selling oil drilling leases for $400,000 cash just because Secretary of the Interior Albert Fall was friends with the oilman. It was the biggest political scandal of the time. -

The establishment of new programs to help the economy during the Great Depression. Franklin D Roosevelt came into office during the great depression. Even though the act helped the U.S, people who protested FDR tried to create new plans to replace the New Deal act. -
The Dust Bowl
A time period of a drought and dryness in which severe led to dust storms. Wind erosion brought large winds of dust which flooded fields and plains.This made it hard to plant any new farm crops.On top of that, America was going through great depression. -
20th Amendment
After two terms in office, the President and Vice President will step down from their positions and a new President and VP will take their place. The ceremony would take place on the 20th of January. The same goes for senators and Representatives, only their inauguration day is January 3rd. -

Relief was to reduce the lower class suffering from poverty
Recovery was to create jobs to grow business and restarted the flow of demand
Reform was to introduce permanent solutions to avoid another depression. -
Tennessee Valley Authority
Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned organization to mandate electricity power, contain floods,and provide navigation. This was another program launched by the new deal.Franklin Roosevelt launched this the first 100 days as president. -
Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation
The FDIC is an independent agency that insures deposits made by individuals and companies in banks. They are responsible to make sure that banks do not fail. The FDIC was created by the Banking act of 1933. -
21st Amendment
The repeal of the 18th amendment. Prohibition did not reach the effects that were desired. In fact people still continued to drink even though it was illegal. So the congress decided to end prohibition with the limit of the drinking age of 21. -
Securities & Exchange Commision
The U.S Securities and exchange commission (SEC) was created to protect investigators from illegal financial fraud. They secure funds and stock bonds. They also offer stocks, bonds, and other funds. -
Social Security Administration
The SSA was one of the programs launched by the New Deal. The SSA was founded to be a social insurance program for retirement, disability, or veterans. This program was founded by Presidents Franklin Roosevelt. -
Dorothea Lange
Dorothea was a documentary photographer. She is known for her photos during the Depression era. She took pictures of common citizens during the depression, she believed "I do not believe the president knows whats happening to us here."
