Ken graduates with a masters degree in electrical engeenering from Universiyt of California, Berkly -
Bell Labs
After graduation, Ken went to work for Bell Labs and he first worked on Multics Operating System (OS). -
B Programming Language
Ken with the help of Ritchie created B Programming Language. -
UNIX Created
Kenneth and Ritchie created UNIX. -
UNIX in C
UNIX was rewritten in C language. -
C programming language published
The C programming language was published. -
Continuous work on UNIX
all through the 1980's Thompson and Rithchie continued revising UNIX which adopted BSD code base for the 8th, 9th, and 10th addition. -
National Academy of Engineering
In 1980 Ken was elected into the National Academy of Engineering for UNIX. -
Turning Award
Thompson and Ritchie both received the Turning Award for their UNIX operating system. -
Inferno
In the 1990's Thompson and Ritchie started working on the Inferno operating system. -
IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal
Thompson and Ritchie both received the IEEE Richard W. Hamming Medal for the UNIX. -
UTF-8
Ken created UTF-8 encoding with Rob Pike. -
National Medal for Technology
Thompson and Ritchie both jointly received the National Medal for Technology from President Bill Clinton for the UNIX. -
Retirement from Bell
In the late 2000's Thompson retired from Bell Labratories. -
Entrisphere retirement
Ken worked for Entrisphere until 2006 when he reitred. -
Japan Prize
Thompson and Ritchie both awarded the Japan Prize for Information and Communication for the UNIX. -
Google
After his work with Entrisphere Ken started working for Google, where he currently works now.
