German Blitzkrieg
Blitzkrieg was a war tactic used by the Germans that meant lightning war. It also consists of many surprise attacks many from the air and many from land. These surprise attacks happen very fast as well. -
Germany's Invasion of Poland
The Germans used a tactic call blitzkrieg, lightning war, to invade Poland. Germany broke the "Munich Pact" when they invaded Poland. Germany invaded the west and the Soviet Union invaded the east. After this invasion, France and Great Britain declared war on Germany. -
Fall Of Paris
Also known as the fall of France, the Germans invaded France during world war 2. The battle lasted from May 10, 1940, to June 25, 1940. The axis powers won and parts of France were placed under Italian and German military forces. -
Pearl Harbor
Japan attacked the united states naval base in Pearl Harbor on the Hawaii island of Oahu. Japan decided to attack pearl harbor because the united stated had recently decided to stop giving their oil to Japan. The attack killed thousands and left many others seriously injured. The attack left 18 ships sunk, some are apart of the memorial today. -
Battle of Stalingrad
After losing the Battle of Britain, the Germans turned to attack the Soviet Union. Stalin started the "scorched Earth policy" and set fire to everything that could be helpful to the Germans. This battle is considered the turning point in the war with 100,000 germans dead and 80,00 captured. -
D-Day/Normandy invasion
Churchill, FDR, and Eisenhower planned a land invasion while Stalin promised to attack Germany from the east. The resistance blew up railroads and bridges to slow down the German forces. Allies went on gliders and went behind enemy lines at night. Britain, Canada, France, and America won the battle. -
Battle of the Bulge
Battle took place from December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945. The battle happened near the end of the war. Germany exhausted their men leading America and their allies to the victory. -
battle of Iwo Jima
The U.S. troops traveled to Iwo Jima and arrived there on February 19, 1945, and it was the first battle in world war two to take place on Japanese territory. The U.S. chose the Island of Iwo Jima because they need a place for their plans to be able to land and take off. The United States ended up taking over the island. -
VE Day
This is the day that Germany's armed surrendered during the war. This surrender marked the end of the war in Europe. Since Adolf Hitler had died the previous month, the surrender was organized by Germany's successor. -
Battle of Okinawa
This battle was one of the last battles of world war two and was also one of the bloodiest. The battle of Okinawa was apart of Americas three-step process in winning the war in the east. The battle resulted in America taking the victory. -
Dropping of the Atomic Bomb
An American bomber dropped a 5-ton bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. The bomb immediately killed 80,000+ people and left many injured. Since the bomb dropped at Hiroshima was not enough to make the Japanese surrender the united states decided to drop the second bomb on Nagasaki and the Japanese finally surrendered. -
VJ Day
VJ day was the day that the Japanese formally surrendered to the United States of America. This formal surrender took place aboard the U.S.S. Missouri in the Tokyo Bay. The event the really pushed the Japanese to surrender was the two atomic bombs that were dropped in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
