Karlpopper

Karl Popper (July 28, 1902- September 17, 1994)

  • Classification of Sciences

Popper stated there should be certain criteria for denoting whether a school of thinking could be considered Science or Pseudo-science. Physics and chemistry are considered sciences because theories in these fields can be proven false. Astrology is considered a pseudo-science as it lacks quantifiable theories that can be proven false. https://youtu.be/-X8Xfl0JdTQ
  • Let's Be Logical

In a forward written for his book The Logic of Research, he writes that scientific knowledge is based on the purely logical observations of disproof. In the search for quantifiable knowledge, that only disproof can be logically proven and demonstrated.
  • Falsification Theory

In 1935 Popper published Logik der Forschung (The Logic of Research), in this, he claimed that the Falsification theory should replace the observationalist-inductivist method for observing scientific studies. Falsification theory states that scientific predictions should be able to be tested, and if proven false, revised or rejected altogether. Just because you can prove something does happen does not mean it always happens.  (Popper, Karl R. Logik Der Forschung. 1971.)
  • Problem Solvers

Popper considered scientists to be problem solvers. He believed that to expand our knowledge as humans we must be able to get imaginative in our theories to be able to make the leap to new scientific discoveries. If we do not use our imaginations when theorizing problems we will never push the boundaries of what we already know.  Popper, K. R. (2001). Karl Popper: All life is problem solving.
