  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was a bill passed in congress in 1820. The Compromise made all states south of the Missouri territory slave states and all states of the northern side free. This compromise was made because people couldn't decided if Missouri should be free or slave. This only pushed a further divided between free and slave states eventually leading to a civil war.
  • Wilmot Proviso

    Wilmot Proviso
    The Wilmot Proviso was a serious of unsuccessful laws created in 1846 to try and ban slavery in the us Mexican territory. These laws where created by David Wilmot and upset many of the southerner living in the Mexican territory. This event divided the senate and the house and was one of the leading causes to the civil war.

    The compromise of 1850 was a bunch of laws created to try and fix the divide between slave and free states. The laws worked by banning slavery in more northern states. The laws failed and causes more fighting between states. the new laws convinced northern states that slavery was evil. This only increased the divide instead of fixing it like it was meant to.

    The fugitive slave act was a law that manged to upset a most of citizens in the north. The law allowed for southern plantation owners to track down there slave in the north and bring them back to the south. This act was created because slave owners where upset that there slaves could just flee to the north. However the new law made many northerners furious that they had to participate in the slave trade.

    Uncle Toms Cabin was a book written by Harriet Beecher about the horrors of slavery. This book was written in a cabin and became a best seller. This changed many peoples minds about slavery. The book caused many people to protest. This lead to new anti slave laws.
  • Kansas Nabraska act

    Kansas Nabraska act
    The Kansas Nabraska act allowed states to vote on weather or not they wanted slavery. Well this law was created to try and end the divided between free and slave states like the laws before it, it failed. Nabraska couldn't decided weather it wanted to be free or slave. Nabraska eventually split into two states. One was free and the other was slave.

    Dred Scott Case
    The Dred Scott case caused outrage across the northern states. It all started when a slave named Dred Scott was brought from the south to the north by there owners. Dred Scott´s owners however did not allow him his freedom and he took it to court. Dred Scott was denied his freedom because he was looked at as property that will soon be brought back to the south. This case spread around the contrary and outraged the northern states because it showed that there really where know free states.
  • Lincoln Douglas Debate

    Lincoln Douglas Debate
    All over the the globe Fredrick Douglas and Aberham Lincoln where debating over who gets the senate. Well they where both anti slavery they ran for two different solutions to the problem. Lincoln wanted to stop the spread of slavery to future states. Douglas wanted popular sovereignty. These events made slavery a hot topic and eventually got Lincoln elected president.
  • John Browns raid

    John Browns raid
    John brown was an abolitionist who was against slavery. In October 16 1859 John brown and his five sons will lead a slave revolt. This revolt involved steeling from a federal arsenal in the south. Unfortunately John brown was hanged for his crimes. Still his actions lead to the creation of many more slave revolts.

    In 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected president. This inspired many southern states to sassed and by 1861 forming the confederate states of america. This however this only lasted five years. Shortly after the states seceded Abraham Lincoln declared war. By 1856 the confederate states where taken over by america. None of this would have happened if Abraham Lincoln wasn't elected president.
  • Southern Secession

    Southern Secession
    On April 12 1861 the states Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Texas all seceded from the united states. The states formed there own union own as the initial Confederacy. The states did this in fear that Lincoln would outlaw slavery. Lincoln was just elected the previous year and his anti slavery agenda scared the confederate sates. This ended up leading to the civil war between the two country's.
