    Some event changes the face of the Earth forever, leaving ash and gray scenary scattered about.
  • Mom Leaves the Earth

    Mom Leaves the Earth
    The man's wife kills herself because she doesn't want the horrors of the apocalypse to get to her. She tries to encourage the man and boy to follow her, but the man can't get himself to do it.
  • Taking Their Leave

    Taking Their Leave
    The boy and the man leave the safety of the cave to head South; possibly for the colds of Winter or the possibility of a refugee camp there.
  • Ignoring The Fallen

    Ignoring The Fallen
    The man and the boy find the man who wa struck by lightning. The man refuses to offer aid, and this action causes the boy to question whether they were really the "good guys."
  • One Shot, One Kill

    One Shot, One Kill
    The man and the boy come across people who have a working truck. One of the men in the truck discover the man and the boy, so he starts talking to the dad. He lunges toward the boy, but before the wink of an eye, the father had already lodged a bullet in his forehead.
  • Losing the Cart

    When the man and the boy go back to get their cart after the other man gets shot, their cart is missing. This leaves them with only their knap sacks and each other.
  • Harvesting Humans

    Harvesting Humans
    The boy and the man wander into a house where they see a lock on a door. They break the lock, and go down into the cellar. They see humans that have been consumed by other humans, and this is when the boy sees the true horrors of the world.
  • Finding the Shelter

    The man and the boy take cover in a barn, and soon find an underground bunker with lots of food and supplies. This is major turning point in the book because this restocks them with a lot of supplies.
  • Ely

    The man and the boy come across an old man named Ely, who denies the existence of a God, even when the man explains why the boy is a God. Ely can hardly see, but he is very wise. This gives us a view on how most people look like and act like now that the "end" has come.
  • Reaching their Destination

    The man and the boy finally make it to the coast, but are disappointed because what they were expecting wasn't there.
  • Scavenging the Boat

    Scavenging the Boat
    While at the coast, the man spots a boat. After a few days of scavenging, he finds a hidden slot with a flaregun, SOS beacon, and some ammo. But no gun.
  • The Theif

    The Theif
    A theif steals the man and boy's cart so they track him down. They find him, and they father makes him strip nude and give them all of his things. The boy cries and begs for the man to show mercy, and the man finally gives in and leaves the theif's clothes in the middle of the road. This is when the boy really ponders whether they are really the "good guys."
  • The Bowman

    The Bowman
    The man and boy leave the coast and contine down the road. They come to a destroyed city. An arrow whizzes by the man's head, and they hit the deck. An arrow strikes the man's leg, injuring him pretty bad. When the bowman goes to strike again, the man shoots a flare at him. The flare hits him, and burrows into his chest. When the man goes to investigate, he sees the dying man and a woman (probably his wife) crying over him.
  • Death of the Man

    Death of the Man
    The man gets more sick, and before long, he can't continue. The boy cries over him, and soon enough, the man passes away. One of the man's final words are "you will be lucky again." Could this be foreshadowing or just to comfort the boy?
  • The Boy is Lucky Again

    The Boy is Lucky Again
    The boy sees a man approaching him and his dead father. The man tells him to come with him and his family. The man also says that they have been following them and that they are also "good guys" that don't eat people. This reassures the boy, and afte mourning over his father once more, goes with the family.
