Jalen Anthony Rose was born on January 30th, 1973 in Detroit, Michigan. He was the youngest of four children, but he had a different father. As a kid, he felt that he didn't want to burden his mother with questions about his dad, so he didn't ask about her. When he was 13 years old, the athletic director of the St. Cecilia Gym in Detroit told him that his father was former NBA All Star and NCAA National Champion, Jimmy Walker. He never spoke to his father before his death in 2007 from cancer. -
Jalen Rose's basketball team wins their second straight Michigan State Championship (Detroit Public), (Jalen Rose's Fab)
Jalen Rose attended Detroit Southwestern High School, the best public school team in the state. While in high school, Rose played travel basketball with his best friend and eventual teammate, Chris Webber. Chris was the top player in the country throughout his high school career. He verbally committed to the University of Michigan the same day that Jalen won his second state title. After the game, Jalen also committed to Michigan. -

1991, Michigan brought in dabatebly the greatest freshman recruiting class in the history of college basketball. Along with Rose and Webber, Michigan acquired Jimmy King, Ray Jackson, and an eventual All Star, Juwan Howard. They made the national championship their first year and faced the defending champs, the Duke Blue Devils. Rose hated Duke. He felt that Duke didn't recruit players like him and only recruited "Uncle Tom's." After a close first half, Duke pulled away and won by 20. -

Crackhouse Incident (Jalen's Fab), (No Regard)
One Sunday morning, Jalen was with his friends at one of their homes. As they were playing video games, the police entered the house because they got a tip that the home was a "crackhouse." Jalen was shocked at the idea, but one of the people watching football was in possession of coccaine and Jalen, along with everyone else, was given a ticket for loitering in a place where drugs were stored. After the story was released, he was thought accused of being a drug dealer, but the article was false. -
1993 National Championship game (Michigan), (Jalen's Fab), (1993)
After a heart breaking loss the year before, Michigan was determined to win the National Championship. Their season was filled with success and fame. The team entered the 1993 tournament with a #1 seed in the tournament. They made the National Championship for the second year in a row against the North Carolina Tar Heels. As the game got close, Michigan had no timeouts. Down two, Chris Webber went by the bench and called timeout. Michigan received a technical foul and lost the game by four. -

Jalen Rose was drafted 13th overall by the Denver Nuggets. In his 13 years in the NBA, Jalen averaged 14.3 points per game and was on the NBA all rookie team his first season. He played for six different NBA teams: Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls, Toronto Raptors, Phoenix Suns, and New York Knicks. He went ti three consecutive Eastern Conference Titles with the Pacers and Jalen later retired in 2007. -

In 1996, the NCAA investigated the relationship between Ed Martin, a Michigan Booster, and former Michigan players. While in High School and College, Chris and Jalen maintained a close relationship with Ed Martin. He acted as a father figure towards them and would give them money when ever they needed it. When Jalen and Chris were brought in to court, Jalen told the Grand Jury about their relationship, while Chris lied. This caused a full scale investigation and a ruined their friendship. -

After retiring, Jalen Rose became involved in philantropic actions. He created the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy in Detroit. In addition to being a philantropist, Jalen Rose is a sports analyst for ESPN. He is an analyst for college basketball and the NBA. He also is a lead analyst for the headline shows "College Gameday" and "NBA Countdown." He currently lives in his hometown of Detroit.
