Operation Thunderclap
'Operation Thunderclap' had been under discussion within the Allied Command for some time. Also to demostrate to the German population, in even more devastating fashion. Thunder clap moved up to bombing.

Battle of Iwo
In sum, Iwo Jima saw the only major battle in the entire Pacific Campaign where American Casualities surpassed the Japanese dead. Iwo Jima sure appeared to have saved many Americans, too.

Battle of Okinawa
Okinawa is the largest of the Ryukyus islands at the southern tip of Japan. Okinawa is about 60 miles long and between 2 and 18 miles wide. Its strategic importance could not be underestimated – there were four airfields on the island that America needed to control. Battle of the Bulge
The American advance continued, eliminatioing all German gains by the end of January 1945. With out halting,US forces challenged the German defenses of the Seigfried Line, now undermanned after the heavy German losses during the Ardennes offensive.

VE Day
The VE in VE Day stands for Victory in Europe. It was the public holiday of 8th May 1945 to mark the defeat of Germany by the Allied forces in World War 2.

Dropping of Atomic bombs
The United States becomes the first and only nation to use atomic weaponry during wartime when it drops an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Though the dropping of the atomic bomb on Japan marked the end of World War II, many historians argue that it also ignited the Cold War.

VJ Day
On August 15, 1945, news of the surrender was announced to the world. This sparked spontaneous celebrations over the final ending of World War II. On September 2, 1945, a formal surrender ceremony was held in Tokyo Bay aboard the USS Missouri. At the time, President Truman declared September 2 to be VJ Day.
