Jackson and The Bank

  • Second Bank

    Second Bank
The Second Bank of the United States was chartered for 20 years. The bank was put in place because after the first bank not being renewed the state-chartered banks were in-charge of the money which created a lot of confusion. It was also clear that the states could not provide the people with a reliable currency. Which is why the second bank was put in place.
  • The Whigs

    The Whigs
Jackson’s political opponents were in a common opposition against him, the common party was called the Whigs. The Whigs came together after the election campaign of 1832. The Whigs were too divided to have a leader, then decided that Van Buren would be their leader.
  • An end to the deposits

Andrew Jackson ordered an end to the deposits of government money into the bank, characterized as a "pet bank" by the opposition.
  • Refusal to renew the bank

Andrew Jackson refused to renew the bank because he did not like the lack of funding for expansion into the unsettled Western territories.
  • Bank becomes private
