Jackson and the Bank

  • First Bank

    Created under Alexander Hamilton's rule, was a private business with all money being passed to its stockholders and was trying to stop the disposable paper money and create new currency's. This system was not liked by Southern/Western states in the US, and eventually was not renewed and stopped being used by 1811.
  • Second Bank of the US

    Because the country visibly could not continue using individual state banks to provide money, the second bank of the US was created. Although it was very disliked by the states because they did not agree with virtual money, the bank worked smoothly.
  • Jackson's Order

    Trying to stop the central bank, Jackson ordered a stop to deposits of government money from the bank. The government had to deposit all funds in certain state banks and resulted in the US having a very unorganized bank system for the years to come.

    The Whigs, being a group of people who opposed Jackson's rule, were very divided and weren't able to win this election, and were beat by Jackson's vice president.
  • Election of 1840

    William Harrison of the Republican and Whig Party defeated Van Buren of the Democrat Party. considered to be the first real campaign in America.
