The Order of Jesuits are aprroved by Pope Paul III. Created by Spanish priest Ignatius de Loyola. The Order of Jesuits help convert many Protestants back to Roman Catholic. The Order of the Jesuits still exists today. (Jesuit Order) -

Ivan is crowned as the first Russian czar upon his command. (Thomas 150) This begins the road of the leader of Russia being a czar. He has become one of the most powerful people in the world because of this. He still is only 17 years old. -

Rout of the Tartars
Ivan defeats the Mongolian people. His son was born during this named him Dimitri in honor of the first ruler to defeat the Mongols.(Rice 36-37) -

French attempt to colonize Florida
The French attempted to colonize Florida to try and plunder from Spanish galleons that passed by Florida. They succeded in making a colony naming it Ft. Carooline. Things here went very bad as the men killed their captain. Then they made a boat and sailed for France. -

War with Sweden and Poland
The war against Sweden and Poland was for the possesion of Estonia and Liviona. Ivan's generals were successful at first using sheer numbers to overpower the Swedes and Poles. But evetually the better trained Swedish and Polish army defeated his. Peace was made at Zapoli on January 15th 1580. Russia lost access to the Baltic Sea because of this treaty. Ivan threatens to abdicate
In 1564 Ivan left Moscow to go to the village of Alexadrovsk. There he threatened to abdicate from the throne because of the "treachery" of boyars. He said he would only return if he could punish them by death.(Rice 40-41) -

First Globe.
Tycho Brahe begins at Augsberg the construction of a 19 foot quadrant using a celestial globe 5 feet in diameter. He used the globe to help him map the movements of 6 planets the sun, the moon and a variety of stars. (Wright) -

Murder and destruction.
Ivan murders St. Philip for the sin of sorcery and begins the massacre of great Novgorod.(Rice 43) He personally led his army in this terrifying campaign. He believed the town to be full of traitors and killed thousands of men, women and children.(Prominent Russians) -

A Great Voyage
Sir Francis Drake begins his journey around the world (Grun 255). He originally was attacking the Spanish colonies in South America. In doing this he became the first Englishman to navigate the Strait of Magellan. On his return voyage he travelled north looking for a return route. eventually he began sailing west across the Pacific around Cape Horn and returning to England in 1580 (Sir Francis Drake). -

Catacombs of Rome
The ancient catacombs of Rome are discovered(Grun 257). They were first built by the Jewish society of Rome to be used as cementeries. Later the Christian community would do the same. The Christian catacombs are part of the Christian church and no one can visit them without permission from the Vatican. The legend of the Holy Grail comes from these catacombs.(Valsecchi) -

Ivan The Terrible killed his own son in a violent dispute. The son, Ivan Ivanovich was to be the next of the throne. But his father struck him with his pointed staff. After this Russian fell under the control of several nobles leading to itslosing of power.(Prominent Russians) -
Death of Ivan
Ivan dies as the monk Jonah in his home in Moscow. He was playing a game of chess when he fainted and was brought to his room. He didn't become a monk until the last moments of his life. After his death Russia fell into anarchy.(Ivan the Terrible)
