ARPANET created
ARPANET is released, after years of initial development by the US government's Advance Research Projects Agency. ARPA was originally launched in response to the USSR's 'Sputnik'. -
TCP/IP created
TCP (or Transfer Control Protocol) is altered, and IP (or Internet Protocol) is added to the TCP. Also, what is believed to be the first spam-message is sent, advertising an upcoming presentation of DECSYSTEM-20 computers -
ARPANET dies
Due to an accidentally-propogated status-message virus, ARPANET grinds to a complete halt -
NSFNET created
As ARPANET ceases to exist, NSFNET is created with multi-national support. -
Birth of CERT
Worm burrows through the Net, affecting 6000~60000 servers. In response to the worm, CERT (Computer Emergency Response Team) is created. -
Triple 'W'
Thanks to CERN and Tim Brenners-Lee, the World Wide Web is developed. -
Web Growth
As of 1993, the Web grows 341000% in a single year -
Java is served
Sun Microsystems releases Java. Three months later, on August 24, Microsoft releases Windows 95. -

Internet celebrates it's unofficial 20th birthday. The SQL Slammer worm causes one of the largest and fastest-spreading DDoS attacks ever, taking only 10 minutes to spread worldwide. -
