    Child Find WebsiteChild School districts are required to locate any child age birth-21 who may have a learning disability. This includes students in private schools. The school district is required to locate students with special needs and once they become aware of this student, an evaluation is required and will follow the same steps as any other referral.   • Referral

    Referral
    A referral is made for the child. Anyone can make a referral- teacher, doctor, parent, etc.
  • Disposition of Referral

    Disposition of Referral
    Within 15 calendar days (including weekends, vacations, holidays, etc.)
    - School needs to pull together an IEP Team and conduct a meeting (Disposition of referral).
    -IEP team members should include special education teacher, general ed classroom teacher, parent/guardian, LEA representative, another other member who is pertainent to the child's education
    - School needs to send parents either a letter of consent for evaluation or a notice that no tests are needed.
  • Parent Consent

    Parent Consent
    There is no specific timeline to receive parental consent, however it is encouraged to be a quick response as to not delay the special education process.
  • Evalutaion Completed

    Evalutaion Completed
    -School must conduct a full individual initial evaluation within 45 days of receiving consent.
    • Evaluation determines if student falls into any of the categories protected under IDEA • autism • deaf-blindness • deafness • hearing impairment • intellectual disability • multiple disabilities • orthopedic impairments • other health impairments • emotional disturbance • specific learning disability • speech or language impairment • traumatic brain injury • visual impairment, including blindness
  • Parents Receive Written notice of IEP meeting

    10 days before IEP meeting- Parent must receive written notice of IEP meeting
  • IEP Meeting to discuss eligibility

    Eligibility determination- 30 days from evaluation to begin writing IEP
  • Parental Consent

    Parental Consent
    10 days after IEP meeting- Parent has 10 days to decide if they agree or not
  • Placement of child

    Placement of child
    30 days- Once IEP is agreed upon (parent consent)- placement of child
  • Yearly progress monitoring

    Yearly- Progress monitoring- IEP team to meet yearly to track progress
  • Reevaluation

    Every 3 years-reevaluation
    -4-6 weeks before IEP to be reviewed, IEP team to meet and begin setting goals and recommendations for referrals.
