European Explorers bring slaves to the Americas
European Explorers wanted to colonize the new world. Spanish explorers (conquistadors) enslaved Estevanico, the first slave. Then they gradually enslaved a lot of Africans. -
Creation of the Cotton Gin
Eli Whiteny created the first modern mechanical cotton gin in 1793. His creation involved combing the cotton to prevent jams in the machine. This was so much easier than hand powered forebears. -
Slavery ends in Great Britain
Slavery was abolished in Great Britain in 1833 an Act of the Parlianment of the United Kingdom. Later on there was a repeal but that didn't legalize slavery. -
Amistad Trial
Porteguese men sailed to Cuba to sell slaves. They sold the slaves and the men who bought the slaves sailed towards where he wanted to go. The slaves managed to take over the ship and kill the the people that bought them. This caused everyone to freak out and it was said to be unbelievable that the slaves killed the white people. -
The Compromise of 1850
People would be bribed with packets of 5 dollar bills to tell information of run away slaves, where they could be and who they were. -
Fugitive Slave Act
Many slaves escaped and ran away, then a law was made saying that all run away slaves were to return to their masters. People against slavery called this the Bloodhound Law because dogs were used to track down run away slaves -

The Civil War was made becuase people wanted to stop slavery and to make it seem like a bad idea and to make it seem extremely cruel. -
Signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in U.S.
During the American Civil War, Abraham Lincoln sent armies to states of America. He made a law saying that they should free slaves and treat them as an equal. -
The 13th Amendment to the U.S constitution
Passed by Abraham Lincoln, the 13th Amendemt abolished slavery which caused little wars but they resolved. -
Slavery ends in the United States
The thirteenth amendment, abolishing slavery, freed all the remaining slaves on December 6, 1865 -
Martin Luther King Assassination
King was shot in the doorway of a motel. A witness saw James Earl Ray runnimg away from the scene, but his finger prints were found on the weapon used to murder King so Ray was arrested. After heart surgery it was revealed that even though King was thirty-nine years old when he died, he had the heart of a sixty year old man. -

The Jim Crow Laws
This law meant that African Americans wre separate but equal meaning that African Americans had to use different transport, facilities and more. -

Brown .vs. Board Of Education
A law was made saying that black people and white people should have seperate schools. This also states black people seperate from white people in general including other facilities. It was a huge victory for the Civil Rights when this law was broken. -
Slavery abolished in Nigeria
White peope came to Nigeria and told them that they had to work for them. That's how slavery came in Nigeria. It became popular and about 2-2.5 million people were enslaved, but then it was outlawed. -

This was to outlaw racial discrimination. It allowed African Americans to vote too. -
Freedom Riders Movement
The Freedom Riders were people that would drive around in a bus and protest against the Jim Crow Laws. Not many buses got around safely, some people were arrested. -
Emmett Till Murdered
Emmett Till was black and was murdered because he was seen talking with a white women. The womens husband found Till and beat him and gouged one of his eyes out. He shot Emmett Till through the head and then put a cotton gin fan on barbed wire and attached the barbed wire around Till's neck. Bryant (the husband) then threw Till in the Tallahatchie River. Till's body was found three days later -
Last Country to abolish slavery
Mauritania abolishes slavery. 20% of the population were slaves. Even though it's illegal to have slaves, slavery still goes on in Mauritania.
