    The steam engine was made by three British inventors in 1698. It was used in factories to manufacture goods. Then the steam train was invented by George Stephenson in 1804. It improved the speed of train transportation. After that, the steamboat was invented by Robert Fulton in 1807. It made traveling by boat faster.
  • Cotton Gin

    Cotton Gin
    The cotton gin was invented by Eli Whitney in 1793. The cotton gin helped remove seeds from cotton faster. Though it did improve the cotton industry, there was a higher demand for slaves.
  • Interchangeable Parts

    Interchangeable Parts
    Interchangeable parts were invented by Eli Whitney in 1798. Interchangeable parts made it easier to replace parts and they could be made in a mass production. This invention was very useful but a negative effect is that blacksmiths lost their jobs.
  • Canals

    Canals
    The first canal was opened by the Federal Government in 1825. Canals were built mostly as a method for carrying either heavy or delicate products. There was an economic advantage but there were leakages and diseases were being carried.
  • Mechanical Reaper

    Mechanical Reaper
    The mechanical reaper was invented by Cyrus McCormick in 1831. The mechanical reaper help farmers harvest grain faster. Similar to the cotton gin, there was an increase for the demand of slaves.
  • Steel Plow

    Steel Plow
    The steel plow was invented by John Deere in 1837. The steel plow made it easier for farmers to cut through hard soil. A disadvantage of the steel plow is that it washed away soil.
