Industrial Revolution

  • Coal and Iron Industries

    Coal and Iron Industries
With out the coal and iron industries, the industrial revolution would have never occurred. Iron was used to make many things from rails to steam engines. The success of the steam engine made coal a very important resource because coal is what powered the steam engines. Some of the primary places that coal was mined was Sheffield , Birmingham and Coventry. Because of the mass mining in this area the smoke polluted the skies. The massive amounts of smoke gave this area the nickname, Black Country

  • Spinning Machine

    Spinning Machine
While people were pushing the use machinery the spinning machine was invented. This invention allowed the production of cloth at a master faster rate. In 1764 James Hargreaves invented a spinning machine called the spinning jenny. Production of thread got so fast that they weavers were not able to keep up. The production of the spinning jenny made it increased production of clothes and other things made by weavers.
  • How the industrial revolution began

The industrial revolution began in Great Britain in the 1780’s. The expansion of farmland, good weather, improved transportation, and new crops led to a dramatic increase in the food supply. This allowed people to be fed at lower prices with less labor and made it possible for British families to use their income to buy manufactured goods.

  • Steam Engine

    Steam Engine
James Watt invented the Steam engine in 1782. The steam engine was able to drive machinery. The cotton industry was improved even more by this invention. Cotton mills started using the steam engines to boost production even more. The invention was very helpful because it didn’t have to be placed by water. The steam engine could be put anywhere as long as it had coal to fire it.
  • Railroads

    Railroads
Railroads were used to move resources and goods more efficiently. The first locomotive was built in 1804, it pulled 10 tons of ore and 70 people at 5 miles per hour. By 1850 there were trains that went up to 50 miles per hour. With these trains, which were fast for the time period, and over 6,000 miles of railroad track, jobs for farm laborers and peasants were created. The tracks also allowed more sales in machinery which was caused by lower-priced goods made by less expensive transportation.
  • Mass production of goods

    Mass production of goods
Throughout the 19th century there were major advances in the production of goods. The invention of the steam engine created the opportunity for machines to perform tasks which people would normally do by hand. This allowed for these tasks to also be performed much quicker and more efficiently. The use of machines to mass produce goods also allowed for there to be less workers. This made goods cheaper to be made and cheaper to be sold.
  • The Camera

    The Camera
Joseph niepce was the first to develop a camera device. He had to experiment with many substances before he found a way to make an image. The first photograph was polished on a pewter plate in 1826. For the image to process, it had to have exposure to light for 8 hours. Later Louis Daguerre, evolved the camera to be able to take portraits. The cameras used had very toxic chemicals, which made it dangerous, but in 1884, George Eastman developed a camera that no longer needed that.
  • Telegraph

    Telegraph
Morse partnered up with Gale to build the first telegraph in the 1830’s. Morse build the machine with the help of Gale helping him improve distance problems, and boost the strength. Henry helped Morse build the relay system. These were the keys to Morse’s success. Morse was then able to show the government his powerful and useful invention. He did an expierament between Washington and Baltimore to test its success. By stringing wires through poles and trees, it was able to work.

How Industrialization Spread to North America
Originally industrialization was unable to spread to any other countries because Britain would not allow it to spread. They did not allow artisans to leave the country. They also did not allow machinery to be sold to other countries. Over time wealthy entrepreneurs left the country and began starting up factories in other countries, such as North America in the 1850s.
  • Cars

    Cars
The first automobile with a combustion engine was made by Henry Ford. This is one of the most significant inventions of all time. The first automobile was actually made much earlier, in 1866, but it was with a steam engine. The car didn’t take long to become a hit with everyone. Almost every family wanted or needed one and it was important to everyday life. They were able to help companies and industries and soon lead to the construction of roads which created more jobs and boosted our economy.
  • Cotton production

    Cotton production
The cotton industry increased dramatically during the industrial revolution. New methods were created in order to mass produce cotton. The first true cotton factory to ever be established was by Sir Richard Arkwright. In 1805 the cotton industry value was £10,500,000 and by 1870 the cotton industry value was £38,800,000. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq5cAiheSpc
  • Airplane

    Airplane
In 1903 the Wright brothers made an invention that would change our world forever. the airplane was able to contribute to the great ending of the industrial revolution. The Wright brothers went through many trial and errors before they finally came up with a way to fly. At first, the airplane was used for fun purposes because of how dangerous it was, but once they were able to tweak and fix it up it became an incredible asset to our everyday life.
