    The Stolen Generation

    The stolen generation went for about 60 years. It was terrible for the people who were
    involved or for us to hear about it now. It should of never happened but it did. The stolen generation was when they took the indigenous children away from their families. The government thought it was a good idea to take the children away so the indigenous culture could die out. It stopped in the 1970 but it started in the 1910 somewhere in that time .

    Indigenous People Were Allowed to Enlist Four War

    By the time came at the end of 1915 the indigenous had it harder to enlist to war because of their race. So many Australian Aboriginals were rejected or sent back.
    At the start of world war 2 in 1939 indigenous and Torres Strait islanders were allowed to enlist so a lot of them did.

    When They First Flew Their Flag

    The first ever Australian Aboriginal flag was flown on the 12 of July 1971. The designer that designed the aboriginal flag was Harold Thomas. It was flown at Victoria square in Adelaide, South Australia on national aboriginal day in July 1971. It was also used in Canberra at the tent embassy for the indigenous in the late 1972.
  • Sorry Day

    Sorry day has been held in Melbourne ever since 1998 on the 26th of May. Sorry day was invented because of the stolen generation. where it had hurt a lot of indigenous and Torres Strait islanders. Even though, Sorry day doesn't mean everything is fixed, the indigenous and the Torres Strait islanders need time to heal some might not forgive still.
  • Kevin Rudds Apology

    In 2008 the Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd apologised to the indigenous and the Torres Strait islanders because of the stolen generation. The stolen generation went for about 60 years so it was emotional for the indigenous people and the Torres strait islanders . The speech was on 13th of February 2008 he was truly sorry for what happened and hopes it will never happen again. It was there first step to reconciliation.
