Indian Attacks on Supply Wagons
Although Native Americans attacked many supply wagons over the entire period of Manifest Destiny, this year seemed to have the most attacks. -
Treaty of 1868
This was a treaty were Indians were supposed to be able to keep their land but it was not upheld. Most whites detested this treaty. -
Completion of the Transcontinental Railroad
This will allow the mass movement of whites west and more slaughter of buffalo. -
Possible Beginning of Mass Slaughter of Buffalo by Whites
Because of the much-wanted hides, whites slaughtered buffalo and left the carcass to rot. This would provide the Indians many troubles because the buffalo were a big part of their lives. -
Gold is Discovered in the Black Hills
Horatio Ross found gold in the Black Hills. This will lead to many whites wanting the land the Indians are on. -
Lakota Reservation Created
The darkest pieces of the map are the Lakota reservations now. The yellow was the reservation after the Treaty of 1868 and the orange was the reservation after the US stole the Black HIlls. -
Battle of Wounded Knee
This battle marks the end of the Indian Wars. -
Indians Became More Westernized
