    Non-violent/non-cooperation- This Indians form a mob to walk to the gate of the British. They go up slowly four at a time as the British beat them down one by one. The Indians never fought back. “The moral ascendancy that the west held was here today gone.”

    Indigo Revolt
    Economic regulations- Indians are forced to grow indigo and pay for their rent in cash to their British landlor. This was difficult because the British are making and buying cloth from England leaving the Indians with nothing to sell. This shows how much the British don’t care about the economic prosperation of the Indians, and keet their cloth trade causing the Indians to feel oppressed.

    Racism/Superiority - Gandhi was kicked of the train because
    he was a colored man who refused to sit in third class. They did this because the British want to keep the Indians oppressed and feeling like a lower level of human.

    Protest- Gandhi and his followers burn all their clothes that the British made and only wear their own home-spun cloths. This is to show their disapproval of the factories in England that are destroying the personal wealth of Indians weavers. They are boycoting the British importing goods to India.

    Protest- Indians lay in the street protesting the fingerprinting
    law so the British horses couldn’t run them over. This shows the courage of the Indians and how far they are willing to go to get the law repealed, and they were successful.

    Injustice - British police beat or arrest Indians for trying to burn
    their passes peacefully. This shows that the police don’t believe that the law applies to the Indians and see them as a lower class and are willing to unjustly punish them.
  • Jallianwala Bagh Massacre

    Jallianwala Bagh Massacre
    Injustice- The British opened fire at an indian gathering that were practicing Gandhis beliefs. Almost all of the Indians were killed including men women and children (1,516). This massacre shows that the British are serious about their rule and are not messing around with their authority and they wanted to "inflict a lesson that would have and impact thought India”. The general wanted them to quit revolting against the British Empire.

    The British continuously put Gandhi under arrest because he issued a non-violent campaigne. There is nothing the law can do to him but the police continue to find excuses to put in prison. This is because the British want to get Gandhi out of the public and stop if from influencing other Indians.

    Injustice- Gnadhi goes tot he ocean to make salt, and the british see this as a threat to their salt market. The British arrested everyone involved with the salt selling. Even the wives mothers and children of the salesman. This is how the British attempt to keep power and order.

    Salutary neglect- Gandhi is going to walk 240 miles the sea to make salt on the anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. It is a symbol of how the Indians know how to live off the land and will live the way they want whether the law allows it or not. Gandhi is also doing it to prove that the British can do whatever they like but the Indians are the ones “in control”.

The British did this because they are getting tired of the Indians rebelling and hope that the hope of independence will stop Indians riots. They wanted the Hindu and Muslims to be treated equally in return for the release of Indian prisoners,

    Riots started because the British arrested Gandhi for India’s strike. The Indians killed British officers and they are fighting back. This is the first violent protest that the Indians have executed in Gandhi’s name.

    Fasting- Gandhi starts fasting for peace between Hindus and Muslims after the separation of India into Pakistan. He does this to show that he is willing to die for his cause and knows the Indians will create peace to keep him alive. Gandhi Fasted for 5 days.

    Political Speech- Gandhi explains that they will not kill or harm any Englishmen, but instead they will fight them with disobedience and non-violent noncooperation. This shows that Gandhi strongly believes that violence is no the way to fight back. He wants them to “fight against their anger, not provoke it”.
