Review rules of the classroom with students
Discuss appropriate behavior and what it looks like and also discuss consequences of negative behavior with students to make sure they understand what will happen if they demonstrate inappropriate behavior. -
Unwanted behavior occurs
The first event is the onset of unwanted behavior. This can be anything from not having homework completed to disrupting the other students and needing to intervene. -
Give student displaying unwanted behavior a warning
"Madison, I saw you throw that paper at your friend. That is not OK. If you make bad choices again, you'll have to sit with me by the wall at recess today." -
Student again displays unwanted behavior
The student shouts out the answer during class discussion. At this point, it i realized that this particular student may have some difficulties with attention and/or beaviors, so some modifications need to be made. -
Pull student aside for one on one
At this point, you need to figure out if there is an underlying issue. Maybe something is going on at home or in their peronal life that is causing them to act out. Depending on what they say, I will come up with a specific bahaviop plan for this studetnt. -
Use your resources for ideas
Use your resources such as fellow teacher, the school counselor or even the principal to get advice on how to handle the situation. At one point one of them is bound to have dealt with a student like this before and can tell you what may or may not have worked for them. Don't be afraid to ask for help! -
Meet with the parents
Set up a meeting with the parents to discuss the child's behavior in your class. Discuss a plan of action with them and stress to them how important it is tht they help you carry it out at home, also. Consistency is key!
