Florence, Italy came under the rule of the Medici family.They aided the Renaissance as patrons by supporting the arts.They would have their portraits painted or donated art to the city.

Gutenberg prints the first bible

Johann Gutenberg invented the printing press in 1440, this invention helped to spread learning in many ways.The first book ever printed was a complete bible.

Columbus discovers the new world

Columbus was an Italian explorer who wanted to find a direct route from west of Europe to Asia.he never did but he had refused to say that he did not. He really found the Bahamas on San Salvador Island, But he is still given credit for finding the Americas because of how close it is to the Bahamas. Ferdinand the Second and Isabella the First of Spain helped to fund his voyage because they wanted some of the goods from Asia.

Michelangelo sculpts the David

Michelangelo was a painter,sculpture,architect and a poet,his works of art are forceful and show heroic grandeur and power.He was inspired to do this because of Donatello's (another artist during the Renaissance) version of David.It's made of Carrara Marble and with a dimension of 517cm.

NIccolo Machiavello writes "The Prince"

This book was published after his death.It describes the different methods that a prince or ruler can gain and keep power.

Martin Luther post "95Theses" on the door of the Castle Church

LUther wrote that indulgences(which were sold and and basically a way to assure that you went to heaven)were never mentioned in the Bible.When the pope found out he told Luther to take it back.Luther was later excommunicated.

John Calvin publishes Institutes of the Christian Religion
