Person: Dad
My dad has always pushed me to think for myself, and go beyond just doing the required things for a grade. Aside from that, there are also many more large influences my dad has had on me. -
Person: Mom
My mom has always been very loving and caring for me. I think she may be a big reason for my optimism in life. -
Person: Phoebe
My sister, described in "Phoebe's Birthday". -
Person: Mr. Bensey
He was an extremely passionate and energetic 3rd grade teacher. The earliest memorable classroom experiences I have are all from his class. -
Person: Mr. Nolan
He said at the beginning of health class this year, that this will be the most important class of your life. Time will tell if he's right, but despite my doubtfulness, there's a good chance he is. I will continue to reap the benefits of the skills, habits and insights I learned in his class for the rest of my life. Along with this, he's also in YL, which is my MAD project. -
Person: Gabriel
He's the leader of YL, of which I'm a volunteer in, for my MAD project. I'm hoping that by learning from his example and helping to run YL events at ICS, I can become a better leader. -
Person: Toviel
I'm currently teaching him programming. I'm interested in teaching perhaps because of some really great teachers in my life, both in school & online. I hope that through teaching Toviel I can learn more about teaching, and learn more about learning as a bonus. -
Person: Anthony
He had the courage I didn't have and isn't afraid to share his thoughts. This lead to him starting the philosophical debate club. If it wasn't for him, I may have never developed a sustained interest in philosophy. -
You!
You didn't have to, but you still sat down with us for hours listening to whatever we wanted to say, and even put up with us going crazy & playing with stuff from time to time. Along with the topics and discussions we had in Bible class, this was the first time I had real, deep conversations with my friends. Thank you! -
Person: Yanna
My other sister, described in "Yanna's Birthday" -
Birth
I was born when I was still very young. -
Joining ICS
I joined ICS in R2. For better or for worse, that has shaped much of who I am today. -
Phoebe's Birthday
She's my sister, but we don't get along as well as we should. In terms of leadership, my relationship with her exposed a lot of faults in my leadership. -
Death of Grandma
This was the first death I experienced. It was overwhelming to realise that someone in my life was just gone. The experiences I had with her, that was it. I wasn't going to get anymore. It took a long time to process, but eventually it made me treasure my time with people more, and treasure my own time on earth more. -
Yanna's Birthday
She's my second sister, the youngest of my family. I hope I won't make the same mistakes I did with Phoebe and we can have a better relationship this time. -
Vacation in Europe
My mom had to go to the Netherlands & Germany for 1 month during the summer, and we came with. It was the best and most memorable vacation I've ever had, and it shaped my taste in vacations. -
Pre-Algebra Class
This was the first time I enjoyed math. I would trace my passion for it back to first learning how math was more than just numbers from this class. Mr Hazlett was also a great teacher. -
Joining Roots Group
I joined roots group during 6th grade, and made many great friends there. It was really fun and enriching at the same time, but I found it hard to start again with new people in a new roots group this year, and gave up. -
Antifragile
Over the summer, I read a few books and came across a few things that gave my worldview a complete overhaul. At first it was quite scary and depressing, but soon I found a new much more positive direction to go in. I'm still trying to rebuild my worldview, but I know what direction I want to head in and I like that direction very much. -
Risky Hike Down Lantau Peak
When we get back and do our devotions, whenever that may be, many of us are going to talk about this hike and what a disaster it became. But there's also a good side to the hike - how we stuck together and looked out for each other during tough parts, how we watched our step as to not send a rock tumbling down to the person below us, how we warned each other of dangerous areas. This was a great example of teamwork in my life.
