Before Europeans came to Indonesia
The Indonesian people developed a writing system. The writing system was based on Arabic and South Asain alphabets that were used by people that were traders. This writing system was used very often until the Latin alphebet became the norm for many native languages. In Indonesia they didnt have a writing system until modern times in history. -
Countries Respones to Imperialism
Imperialism was good for the country at the time just not the people of Indoenesia. Since there was such a demand for food production and spice trade slave labor was needed. When people moved to Indonesia they saw them as inferior. So they hired people to work and oversee the people working so they wouldnt have to be with the Indonesians directly. They were treated very poorly and had to meet special standards everyday that they were assigned. -
Monarchy
The kind of rule that the Dutch East Indies had was a Monarchy. The country was under the direct authourity of the Dutch King. This was the most common rule in the 19th century. The country treated there people very unfair and there was some problems over ethical fairness sometimes. There was aslo rules and guidelines they had to follow. They had harsh pentalties if they didnt obey those guidelines. -
Why the Dutch East Indies was important to have
The "Netherlands Indies" was important to the Dutch because they got profits from coffee, tobacco, and oil which was good for their economy, this helped their ecnoomy alot. Soon the goverment started to spend alot more money to help the Netherland Indies then it was collecting money from the Indies in revenues. Also the revenues were also used to help finance the Dutch military. -
Dutch Imperialism
During this time period the Dutch tried to take control of all of the areas of land that they claimed in the 1870's. They also Imperialized them but the Portuguese were the first to imperialize this country. Britian and France were facing competiton against Germany, and Italy and unclaimed parts of Africa, Asia and the Pacific were being taken over by one before another could get and oppertunity to get the land.
That is why the Dutch was happy with the land that they had claimed. -
Dutch East Indies campaign
This was a war fought between the Empire of Japan and the Dutch East Indies. It took place during World War II. The Japanese wanted the rich oil that Indonesia had at the time. They wanted it because they didnt have a direct source of oil. The Japanese started bombing important areas that Indonesia needed. Soon after fighting back and forth the Japanese won the land they wanted for a
native oil source. This attack influenced to bomb Pearl
Harbor. -
Japanese occupation of Indonesia
The Japanese controlled the Dutch East Indies from March 1942 till the end of World War II in 1945. This time period was the worst time in Indoenesian history. It had ended the Dutch colonial rule -
Indonesians Declare Independence
The Japannese started to lose power and they could not control the Netherlands anymore. Not much later the Indonesians fought and rebelled back, then they decleared there indpendence and created a new Indonesian goverment.
