The Europeans started to build trading posts in Africa -
Colonizing
The Europeans were taking over or colonizing another country for the resources that they produce. -
Europe Taking Over
Europe had taken control of almost all of Africa. There was only country to remain uncolonized, Ethiopia. -
South Africa
South Africa gained independence from Great Britain (Great Britains granted it to them). -
Kikuyu People
The people of Kenya (The kikuyu people) started a political organization that fought For Great Britain’s freedom. -
Italy Invades
Italy invaded the country Ethiopia -

Afrikaners are white South Africans. Afrikaners made apartheid law. Apartheid is a legal separation based on the race of people policy. -

There was an idea that was introduced by Kwame Nkrumah. The idea was Pan-Africanism. Pan-Africanist was a belief of Black Africans worldwide. This was also a belief in the unity. -

After many many years, Kenya became Independent. -
Nelson Mandela
Mandela is the leader of the African National Congress that is best known. Mandela became a lawyer instead of becoming a clan leader. He was arrested sent to prison on a life sentence. -
Joseph Mobutu
Joseph Mobutu gained power and renamed the country Zaire. He ruled the country for 32 years, uninterrupted. -
First Civil War - Ending
The first Sudan Civil War ended in 1972. This lasted for 16 years considering it started in 1956. -
Igbo People
Nigeria was suffering from violence among many of its ethnic groups. The Igbo people attempted to declare themselves as independent. They renamed the new country Biafra. -
Second Civil War - Starting
Sudan rebelled again, against northern rule, which lead to a second Civil War -
F.W. De Klerk
The president F.W. de Klerk was elected president of South Africa. He stopped apartheid and decided it couldn't continue. -
Announcing
Klerk announced that there would be no more of apartheid. He also released Mandela from prison. -
Mandela and Klerk
Keller’s and Mandela were awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. They were awarded this for their work in stopping apartheid. -
New President
South Africa had their first open election. Mandela was elected the new president of South Africa. -
Second Civil War - Ending
The second Civil War ended in 2005. This war lasted for 22 years -
Tunisia People
Tunisia people started to agitate for more of a democratic government. This was known as the Arab Spring -
Sudan Recognizes
South Sudan’s independence was recognized by Sudan -
Ben Ali
Ben Ali (the president) stepped down and a democratic government was elected -
Qaddafi
Qaddafi (the Libya dictator) was kidnapped and killed. After he was killed a new government was elected -
Mubarak
Mubarak (Egypt dictator) was forced against his will to step down from being dictator. -
