  • Moving to America from China

    Moving to America from China
I'm Deng Ai nu! I just got off the ferry on Ellis Island! Left China for my soon-to-be husband's new job in America. We heard about the many opprotunities offered in America! We are glad to leave China's dense population for a more free-willed country.
  • The Chinese Exclusion Act was Passed

The Chinese Exclusion Act was Passed
The Chinese Exclusion Act was passed this year. Glad my husband and I made it here before then! So sad my family could no longer move to America with us as they had planned. The act was passed just to exclude the Chinese because they are doing so well in America.
  • Finally Found a Job!

    Finally Found a Job!
Finally found a job in a clothing factory! Though I now have a job- my husband’s job pays most of the bills. The factory is very overcrowded and unsanitary. I once saw a young woman get her finger cut clean off! The only reaction from the men running the factory was a pay deduction for "missuse of machinary".
  • Getting Settled on Our New Land!!!

Getting Settled on Our New Land!!!
Just got married and participated in the race for land with my husband! We won a nice sized piece of land. Plenty of room for farming, a large house and room for children to play! The race was tough- luckily we had a fast horse and sturdy wagon, we only lost half of our supplies! It willl be well worth it in the end!!!
  • Losing Our Crops

    Losing Our Crops
This harsh winter has completely wiped out our crops! We are losing much money and my husband and I both need to find better paying jobs. My husband has considered working on the railroads, laying tracks. He knows that many chinese men are hired to work on the rails because of how hard they work.
  • Farming is Going So Well!!!

    Farming is Going So Well!!!
My husband and I have made much money from selling crops! Our farm is thriving! I no longer need my factory job to make money. We are glad to say we have become, for the most part, assimulated!
