    My family
Hello, my name is Annora Weber. I come from my homeland, Germany. My family and I came to America because we want our freedom to practice our religion and the right to own land. We weren’t that type of rich family. We didn’t have all of that money; instead we would be out in the fields working all day.

It took us a long time to build a wagon to get there. My mom and dad would be working on the wagon I would have to take care of my little sister and my brother. It took us like a year to complete the wagon, and getting a little bit more money to get a horse. The road trip took like 2 years just to get there. It was soo cold since winter was coming up. My mom took out the three blankets. Everyone had to share except my brother.
  • At the station in northern germany

We finally arrived at the station. Man was it packed! Families from all over Europe were there In the station was a zoo. Kids running around, the elderly sitting, adults trying to get tickets. Good thing my dad found some seats so we can sit and wait while our dad get us tickets. I sat there with my mom, brother and sister. It was so cramp. An hour later. My dad could only get tickets for the next trip which is tomorrow. I guess we are staying the night.
  • Medical Exam

We got up early to stand in another line just for a medical exam. My parents knew a doctor so he checked us before we arrived here. They lift up my eyelid and put this stick under the eyelid. It hurts soo bad! Everyone had to do it even my brother.

    10 question exam
After the medical exam we went into another line for a question exam. They ask stuff like are you meeting someone, why are you coming, and did you pay your ticket. I was next in line and some people had to go to this place called dentention. Some people though were let on the ferry. So i just copied the people ahead of me. Good thing they ask the same questions.
  • On the ferry

Finally we reached the point of getting on the ferry. There were like thousands of people waiting to board. It took a long time but we got on board. My dad had to take my brother into the place where all they will be staying the night. My mom, sister, and I went where all the ladies went to stay the night.
  • Sailing across the Atlanic Ocean

Everything is going fine, the people are kind of nice, the weather changes, and there are some people getting sick on this boat. It smells really, really bad. There are like no bathrooms to use people just pee where they want to.
  • Testing

We waited in lines and lines for testing. We had to take a medical, thinking, and a furture question. Some people were very sick and had to be sent back until they feel better. Pregant womans had to stay there until they gave birth. My sister, brother, wand I had to make sure we left with our parents. So as they were leaving we had to cry or say something to prove those are our mom and dad.
  • Arriving in Ellis Island

    Arriving in Ellis Island
I was so excited to see the statue of liberty. I couldn't image her so beautiful. She standed there to represent the opportunity of freedom. Once we docked everyone was cheerful. Once we touched land we had to go through the building and do the whole testing again.
  • Starting our journey heading west

We found some bulls and wagons for sale. Good thing we found a great job. My dad and mom found this job where people sleeps and build railroads to get to the west. Even the children had jobs. On the railroad their jobs are to put the nails in so the men and hammer them down into the wood.
  • Getting Land

It took a lot of work but we finally arrived at this peaceful piece of land. We all like ran off marking our territory. My mom told my dad to get somke wood so we can start before it gets too dark. Our house was just a small wooden cottage. My mom said once there is a way to get mud or some type of sticky substance, we can make sure all the holes are closed up. Just in case if in the winter it's freezing cold!
