About 1,000 orphaned, single women were sent by King Louis XIV to redress the disproportionate amount of males versus females in New France. They were called Filles du roi - or "daughters of the King." -
Hudsons Bay Company
Two French explorers came to canada and started fur trading and they established a company named Hudsons Bay Company. -

Refuges from America migrated to Canada. After the revolution ended the people who were defeated came to Canada. -
Loyalists
They were American Colonists that remained loyal to the British Empire. After they were defeated they were no longer allowed to say in the United Sates. Around 8000 loyalists migrated to Ontario, New Brunswick, and Nova scotia. -

Over 800 000 people came to Canada from Europe to settle down in the new world and to find better lifestyles. -
Irish Potato Famina
Irland had a huge fimine and over a million people dided due to starvation. Coming to Canada was a cheap and easy way of getting out of irland. By far this has been the largest immigration of irish to Canada. -
Asian Immigration
The Chinese first appeared in large numbers in the Colony of Vancouver Island.They had good knowlege and techiques of mining, this was like an advatage for them. The gold Mountain was a huge attraction that brought them to British Columbia. -
Canadian Pacific Railroad
Constructors brought Chinese workers from China to make the railroad. The chinese were considered cheep labour. 15 000 workers came to canada and they were happy coming here because they thought that they would have a better lifestyle. -
Chinese Head Tax
When Chinese people would enter Canada they would have to pay a fixed amount of money.If they Refused to Pay they were not allowed an entry into Canada. -
American Immigration.
Canada attracted Americans looking for permenent jobs either it was seasonal work of all year around. -
Underground Railroad
The underground railroad was secret routs and safe houses they were used by black slaves to escape from the USA. They came to Canada to find freedom. -
Japanese Exclusionism
Canada entered into an unofficial gentleman's agreement with the United States. They wanted to limit the number of Japanese people emigrating from America to Canada. -
Komagata Maru
The Komagata Maru was a steamship from japan. The ship sailed from Punjab India with Sikh, Hindu, and Muslim pasangers. They arrived at the shore of Vancouver B.C. Out of 376 passangers only 24 Sikhs were allowed to enter Canada and all of the others were sent back to punjab. They came here to find better lifestyle and better jobs so that they could provide better for their families.
