Me, Jamba Jovas
In Nigeria I had family, two brothers, a father, and a mother. Although me and my brothers were nothing but slaves to my father. Mother died soon after my birth. Me and my brothers decided to escape slavery and immigrate to America to start off new and get real jobs. -

The Escape & Begining of Journey
One night me and my brothers finally began our escape plan that we planned for awhile now. We sucsesfully escaped him. We got supplies and joined with others to start our journey to America. -
During the Journey
Right in the middle of our journey yellow fever began to spread with our fellow travelers. Me and my brothers were praying that we would not catch it. In the end we were truly blessed with not getting the fever. Although many of our traveling members got sick and unfortunantly died. -
Arriving in America
We arrived in America but then got directed through Sulivan Island. Sulivan Island is like Ellis Island but for my kind (African Americans). Although it took a few days we smoothly passed through it. We were finally free in America after our long jorney. -
Moving West
While being in America I learned some things about it there. The people are very rude and/or judgmental. People descriminated me very much because of my color/race. So we decided to move to the West. -
Affecting Act
The homestead act gave us one more reason to move west. The act says that any person may have 160 acres of free land if they agree to live on and improve this land for five years. That is just the opportunity me and my brothers needed to start of new. -
Starting to Move West
We started to pack our things up in America to get ready to move west. It was a bit of a hassle considering things were scattered. -
Journey to the West
We began our journey to the West. Like coming into America we came with many others. Especially because many people were moving west at that time. So with all the people around we were safe and traveled well. -
Arriving in the West
We finally arrived in the West with our journey coming to an end. We claimed our 160 acres of free land, it was super exciting!
