Hello, I am Isabella Montibello and I traveled to America with my brother, James. We are from Italy and the reason we moved to America was because it was difficult to find a job in Italy for my brother and I and there is overpopulation in Italy and birth rates are increasing throughout the years, which made it hard for workers to produce goods. -
Immigration to America pt. 2
Another reason why I fleed the country was because of the Chinese Exclusion Act. The Chinese Exclusion Act restricted all Chinese immigrants from immigrating to America. Now, you may not think that this would affect my brother and I, but it does affect us because we would have more
opportunities for jobs when there aren't as many immigrants. There were thousands of immigrants and most of them were chinese. -
Immigrating to America pt. 3
Of course I felt bad that the chinese immigrants cannot immigrate to America, but that means that my brother and I can have more opportunities, such as, working on the farms, being a logger, and working on the railroad. -
Arrived in America and decided to move West pt. 1
I arrived in America and I was extremely excited to begin my job on the farm. I worked day after day and I began to realize that this wasn't what I had wanted to do my whole life. I had lost my interest in working in the same place with the same routine.I discussed with my brother that he and I should move West because we needed to settle down and try to find acres of land to build our own farm. Arrive in America/ Decide to Move West pt. 2
crops had not been harvesting as well as we expected and we realized that the East had gotten too crowded, so we decided to move West. -
We arrived in the West
I arrived in the West of America with my brother James and saw many people smiling and chuckling with their families. My brother and I weren’t much like that. Our travel on the boat and through the immigration station was very tiring. We were extremely exhausted. The voyage was tremendously exciting! My brother and I would play card games before we fell asleep every night. I always lost but I knew he was probably cheating. -
Working on the Farm
As I worked on the acres of farm land, I met a man named Colton Smith. We had started to fall in love and began to do everything together. We would smile at each other each time we passed by each other doing our jobs on the farm. We would make dinner every night together and James would just watch us because he felt quite awkward around Colton and I at times because he was left out. -
Colton proposed pt. 2
Of course I know that I do not have the money for such a gorgeous ceremony, but I knew that wherever and whenever it was, it didn’t matter because I was getting married. That same day, Colton and I were walking in the town near our house. A man came up to me and started to chat with Colton and I, I shook his hand and wished him a good night, but he tried stealing my ring! Colton threw a punch at the man and we ran home. -
Colton proposed
That was a terrifying experience because if the ring was gone, then there would be no symbol of me being married and it would also being a complete waste of money. -
Colton Proposed pt. 1
Since Colton and I have been very close with each other throughout the rough days of farming, I knew that he had some idea of proposing to me. He took me home and we cooked a great big meal together. That night Colton proposed to me with a gorgeous silver ring and the way he proposed made me feel very special. We started planning a wedding and I pictured the wedding to be beautiful, rose petals resting beneath me, a pearl necklace that lies upon my neck. -
Wedding Ceremony pt. 1
Colton and I got married on this day and that was a great experience in the West. I am so pleased with my father because he has not forced me marry someone that only he wants me to marry. My mother and father decided a while back that it would be a ridiculous Idea to pick who I should marry, boy am I lucky. My family came to America from Italy just for our ceremony of marriage. The relatives that were at the wedding were my mother, my father, and my brother. -
Wedding Ceremony pt. 2
The minister talked a whole lot, but I didn’t care, I was getting married. After all of the plannings of the wedding and the decision of getting married a few months ago, the day finally reached its point and it was time to get married. I had on a very cheap, but divine dress on and I put in a tiny daisy in my hair. Colton looked at me straight in the eye and told me he loved me.
