Immigrating from Italy to America

  • Born

I was born in Rome, Italy. I have lived there ever since i was born in a big home with my mother and father and 4 siblings. My parents were both farmers so i grew up on a farm.
  • Life is Getting Difficult for the Family.

Money is very tight and my parents arent earning as much from the farm. Other sections of italy are now becoming a lot more resourceful. The section where me and my family live is getting more unpopulated and has very bad weather. We don't have enough food & money now.
  • Told About America

It is my 16th birthday today! Also, today a family friend came over and otld my parents about america. Form what i hear, it is amazing! You can find easy fortune over there and jobs and have freedom. I don't think my family would ever leave italy to go there tohugh. It's a long & very difficult trip to get there.
  • Going to america on my own

I've decided that i am going to America alone, my family will not leave Italy. I am going in 2 days and i will be going through Angel Island in California. I am going to california to find gold and get a lot of money. For the past week my father has been teaching me how to hunt so i can do it when i get to America.
  • Arrived!

The travel was very long and painful but i arrived safely. When i got to angel island i had to go through a whole process and check up for diseases but i passed everything. I now have made my own home here & find tons of gold easily every single day. I am very fortunate because since i'm a women, i never get in fights or get any of my gold stolen.
  • Things Are Going Very Well.

I feel very alone by myself but on the brightside, i did get a lot of money in 1849 and 1850! I got here when people were just starting to come, so there was a ton of gold. Now that more people found out, a lot of people have now moved here. There isnt much gold left at all and i keep finding less.
