    I was born April 1st, 1829, in China. My childhood was really tough. I never got a good education from a school so I learned things on my own. My dad had died before I was born so I never knew. My family was 2 brother, 1 sister, my mom, and my grandma. I never knew who my grandpa was. My family and I were very poor growing up. I decided that I was going to go to America when I become older.

    Coming to America
    June 16th, 1857 was the day I arrived in America. I went to America to look for a better job to make money and provide for my family. When I arrived at America, they took to a place named Angel Island. At Angel Island they had white people who would ask us questions aout oursleves. The questions for me took around half a day. The white people (Americans) said I answered them well and I could enter America. I was so happy, right away I wrote a letter home saying that I had made it in America.

    My first job was given to me a couple days after settling in my new house in America. I was given the job to mine in the gold mines. I did a lot for my company and I worked hard. I made more money than most of the other Asian people because of how hard I work. Every week I would send some of my salary back to China to provide for my family. I felt like America was working out at this point so far.

    After a week of being in America I recived some major rasicm from Americans or the white people. They made of my race, how I looked, how I talked, and other things. Sometimes they would beat me or threaten to kill me. I also got some discrimation for being Chienese. I couldn't do certain things whites could. I felt like America was turning against Chiense people.

    Chiense Exclusion Act
    Many years after I have been in America working hard and providing for my family, the Chiense Exclusion Act was signed. I wasn't able to work for around 10 years and I lost my normal job. Chiense could no longer enter America. I felt very sad because I just saved enough money to send my famly to America. I decided to wait it out and try to get a job in America.
  • Finally Able to Send Family to America

    I lived out in America tring to hide and not die for 10 years. The time finally came and I was able to send my family to America, The Americans did not allow Chiense wives in America. I had to lie to the Americans saying that she was my sister. The Americans fell for the trick. Finally, my family was here in America with me and I can spend my life with them in America.
