Guy Bays was born March, 12th 1897. His fater died at an early age. He had to work in the Steel Mills of london. He dicided to move to america cause the wages were higher. -
Ellis Island
The Lines were so very long it took 3 hours for me to arrive to the doctor. The doctor fliped over my eye lids. It was only painful for a second. He then sent me to another line. -
Getting Hired
After I was done on the island, I found myself sitting on a bench looking at a map. I found a steel mill I read the sign that said main office. I went inside and talked to the manager. I told Him my job experiance, and that i would work for cheap. He hired me. -
Moving
I had been working at the mill for 3 years. I had worked myself all the way up to floor manager. They called me to the main office one day, the first thing I asked was if I was going to get fired. They replied "No". They told me the Owner was going to set up another mill in Pittsburgh, and asked me if I would like to help set it up, and be the owner. I replied Yes. -
Pittsburgh
I found myself in Pittsburgh. Iwas the Owner of the new mill. I have decided to move my family, and Mother, form London, to Pittsburgh. I met a woman, we have been dating forquite sometime now, I plan to propose to her tonight. -
Cleveland?
My family arrived from England today. Today I reccived a telegraph from Mr. Carnegie, He wants me to move to Cleveland and start anew mill there. I agreed. My new Wife and my newly settled in family are going to load are things on a train and move to Cleveland.
