The battle of the Somme
This battle took time from 1 July to 18 November 1916 in the area of the River Somme in France. It was one of the major losses to the Canadians during WW1. It resulted in 24000 deaths, lost people, and casualties, but they were very successful at achieving their goals. This battle made them have the reputation of tough soldiers, so they were invited to more battles after this battle.

Battle of Vimy Ridge
after the failure of the French and the British to capture Vimy Ridge, the Canadians were invited to fight in it. Four Canadian divisions fought together as Arthur Currie demanded. They did extra stuff to win that the others didn't, such as building tunnels under the ridge and building models to practice the attack on. 10602 casualties and 3598 dead from Canada's side while the Germans suffered 20000 casualties. It was a huge victory for Canadians.

The Battle of Passchendaele
This battle took place on a Ridge called Passchendaele in Belgium.
At that time of the year in Belgium, it was really rainy and muddy. This made it for Canadians hard to move themselves and their equipment. Many people drowned or died during moving. This made them easy targets for the Germans, but the Canadians won which made a reputation of heroism on them because they even won on the hard conditions. 14000 Canadians died and 12000 were wounded.

Winnipeg General Strike
This was the largest strike in Canada. More than 30000 people quit their jobs. Many things like factories, transit, and shops close. There so many injuries, arrests, and there were even two protesters killed. The protests were unsuccessful, but at least the workers united together.

Residential schools became mandatory for indigenous people. These schools were made to strip indigenous people from their beliefs, their own habits, culture, and adapt to the new Canadian-European lifestyles. Aboriginals put their children in these schools in order to make their children adapt to the new circumstances. These children were abused and tortured when they spoke or practiced their native culture.

Insulin was invented by JJR Macleod, Charles H Best, and JJR Macleod at the University of Toronto. It is the medicine of diabetes. This made a quantum leap in medicine. People before insulin used to have a really restricted diet that includes only 400 calories each day, which made people starve to death and die or fall into commas if they didn't follow this diet.
