    First Norse Settlement

    This is when the first norse settlement was established on Iceland, previously only a small group of monks lived on the island.

    Parliament was established

    The first parliament was established creating laws to help govern the newfound area.
  • 1000

    Christianity

    Iceland adopts christianity and it becomes a large part in the new country's building.
  • 1380

    Danish Crown

    Norway and Iceland enter a union with the danish crown.
  • 1402

    Plague

    The plague comes over Iceland and kills from 1402-1404 and then it comes back later from 1494-1495

  • Icelandic trade

    Denmark assumes a monopoly over all Icelandic trade and this persist for 200 years.

  • Iceland's self power

    Iceland is given partial rights to rule over itself as Denmark becomes more democratic.

  • Full Control

    Iceland is given full control to rule over itself and is no longer under the Danish crown.

  • WWII

    The United States takes over defense of Iceland and stations troops there during WWII.

  • Cutting ties

    Iceland decides to cut all ties with Denmark and will become a republic. The republic of Iceland formed on June 17th 1944
