Rome became a republic in 509 B.C. Over the years many neighborin civilization adopted this type of government. The republic began when a roman overthrew his etruscan conquerer. This government let the romans select a representative on their behalf. The citizens of rome differentiate themseves by wearing togas. -

The Law of the Twelve Tables
In 449 B.C. there was a struggle between the patrichians and plebians for civil rights. They appointed as assembly of ten men, known as Decemviri, to write a new code of law that supported both parties. -

Roman Empire Began with Brothers Romulus and Remus
Rome began in 753 B.C. with brothers Romulus and Remus. The two brothers where abandoned by their parents, legend has it that they were tossed into the tiber in a basket. When the basket washed ashore, it was discovered by a female wolf. This wolf allegedly raised the boys. When they had grown into aduthood the brothers decided they would start a city where they had been adopted by the wolf. The brothers disagreed on its location and Rumulus killed Remus. The city was named after him.
