    Sputnik 2
    The U.S.S.R launched Sputnik 2, caring a dog named Laikia. This was the first living thing to go into space. Although Laikia died, this caused allowed U.S.S.R to realize what changes to make to be able to sucessfully send a human into space.

    First man in space
    Yuri Gagarin becomes the first man ever in space while in the Vostok 1. Although he was only in space for 108 minutes, he orbited the earth once, and returned to eath safely.     Only 25 days after Yuri Gagarin became the first man ever to enter space, Alan Shepard launched into space May 5, 1961 on thr Freedom 7 and becomes the first American in space.     On March 18, 1965 Alexey Leonov became the first person to ever be exposed to the harsh elements of space.     Man on the Moon
    Michael Collins ,Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin and, Neil Armstrong made a 3 day voyage to the moon during Apollo 11. Once the landing module had landed, Aldrin and Armstong climbed down from the module at 9:30 p.m. on July 20th as 6 million people watched on telivision as the first steps ever taken on the moon. This event ended the "Space Race" between the U.S. and the Soviet Union
