    The Petition of Law, was initiated by Sir Edward Coke, was based on previous statutes and official documents and enforces four principles: 1. No tax may be collected without Parliament's consent, 2. No subject may be imprisoned without a proven cause (reaffirmation of the right of habeas corpus, of Latin, "that you have the body", right that determined a deadline to resolve if a detainee is arrested), 3. No soldier can be quartered with citizens, and 4. Martial law cannot be used in peacetime.
