How did the U.S become involved in World War II

  • Douglas MacArthur

    American General during the war. Was in the Phillipines when the Japanese raided avoided the Bakaan Death March because he went to Australia.

  • Benito Mussolini comes to power

    Italia dictattor during the war and was part of the Axis Powers.

  • Einstein comes to America

    Helped with the Atomic bomb in 1940. He wrote a letter to President Roosevelt, after the war started the president started the Manhattan Project.

  • Hitler came to power

    The leader of the Nazi Party who believed the Aryan race to be superior to any others.

  • Holocaust starts

    Hitlers plan to extinguish the Jewish race and any other race that was not the Aryan Race. Creating concentration and extermination camps which killed 6 million people.

  • Nuremberg Laws

    Laws that Hitler created to separate the Jews from the "superior" race. Resticted Jews to have German citizenship and made them wear stars to signify their religion.

  • Tripartite Pact

    The Berlin Pact between Germany, Japan and Italy. This signified the alliance between the Axis powers.

  • Lend- Lease Act

    When the U.S was still in isolationism and we gave supplies to the Allies during the war. It showed how we were helping the Allies still continue the war effort when they were struggling.

  • Pearl Harbor

    Japanese airplanes and ships bomb the military fleet in Hawaii killing at least 2500 people. This attack got the United States to join the war.

  • Manhattan Project

    The Allies attempt to research the atomic bomb. They created two atomic bombs that would later be dropped onto Nagasaki and Hiroshima.

  • First Death Camp was Liberated

    Soviet Soldiers were the first to liberate the camps and send concentration camp prisoners to the death camps .The first death camp that was created was a camp called Majdanek. The one that we all know of today is Auschwitz.

  • Harry S. Truman becomes president

    Harry S Truman became president after the death of Franklin Roosevelt , he is the one that made the decision to use the atomic bomb against Japan. He then led the United States into the Korean war . He also tried to maintain communism, and rebuilt postwar in Europe

  • United Nations was formed

    replaced the League of Nations. Soviet Union

  • GATT(General Admissions of Tariffs and Trade)

    Was created after WWII to regulate world trade and investments. Primary goal was to try and raise living standards and help with employment.
